Wo ist bloß Gouph Island...? - Where the heck is Gouph Island...?

Als ich gestern nach Fotos von der Sonnenfinsternis am Montag suchte, stieß ich per Zufall auf eine Sonnenfinsternis, aufgenommen in Gouph Island von Chantal Steyn. Wo zum Himmel war das denn nun schon wieder? Ich dachte immer, dass meine Geographiekenntnisse nicht schlecht seien, aber hierzu hatte ich wirklich keine Idee... Herr Google und ein e-mail direkt an Chantal Steyn brachten es zu Tage: eine unbewohnte Insel unter brit.Protektorat im südlichen Atlantik auf der Südafrika seit 1956 eine mit 8 Leuten bemannte Wetterstation unterhält und deren Vogelwelt bereits zu ca. 60% durch die Hausmaus dezimiert wurde. Seit 1995 gehört Gouph Island zum Weltnaturerbe der UNESCO.-
When I was looking for photos of the solar eclipse yesterday, I found one taken in Gouph Island by Chantal Steyn. Where the heck was this? Although my geography knowledges have never been too bad, I had no real clue except that it must be located somewhere in the Southern part of this world. By Mr. Google and asking Chantal Steyn directly, I found out that the uninhabited island is located in the Southern Atlantic, although it is a British possession, South Africa has been running a weather station there for already nearly 53 years .For the time being there are 8 humans on the island belonging to the overwintering expedition 2009 of the station. Gouph Island has been designated World Nature Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1995. It's wildlife, especilly the sea birds population, is threatened seriously by house mice. Das ist Chantal, die bei der diesjährigen Überwinterung als PC Wizzard dabei ist, vermutlich zuständig auch noch für 1000 andere Sachen... Sie ist diejenige, die so schöne Fotos macht, dass ich nicht widerstehen konnte und besser noch, sie lässt mich...!This is Chantal, responsible in this years expedition for computer stuff and probably 1000 other things... She is the one who takes such beautiful photos that I couldn't resist ....And even better...she allowed me to do so! Thanks Chantal!
