Dies war für viele ein lang ersehnter Moment. Mauritius öffnet seine Grenzen ab diesem Donnerstag unter bestimmten Bedingungen endlich wieder für Ausländer. Tatsächlich bleibt während dieser ersten Phase der Wiedereröffnung bis Anfang Oktober eine bezahlte Quarantäne in speziell dafür vorgesehenen Hotels bei der Ankunft obligatorisch. Das Land erwartet definitiv jedoch mehr Touristen als in den letzten sechs Monaten. Laut Statistik Mauritius wurden von Januar bis Juni 2021 nur 3.225 Touristenankünfte auf Mauritius registriert. Im ersten Halbjahr 2020 gab es hingegen jedoch noch.304.881 Touristenankünfte.
Drei Ankünfte mit insgesamt 730 Passagieren sind an diesem ersten Tag in Mauritius angekommen. Der Emirates Flug EK 701 aus Dubai kam 20 Minuten früher an. Fällig um 9:10 Uhr, landete er aber bereits um 8:50 Uhr auf dem Rollfeld. Selbstverständlich gab es den traditionellen Wassergruß von Airports of Mauritius Limited. An Bord: 190 Passagiere, überwiegend Mauritier und Expatriates, die nach Hause oder zu Verwandtenbesuchen zurückkehren. Auf dem Programm standen weiter zwei weitere Ankünfte von Air Mauritius. Flug MK015 von Paris mit 295 Passagieren und MK 111 von Mumbai mit 245 Passagieren. Zuvor war um 9.45 Uhr der Flug MK110 mit 116 Passagieren nach Mumbai abgeflogen. Dies ist das gleiche Flugzeug, das um 23:40 Uhr zurückgekehrt ist.
Die Frequenz der Flüge ist noch reduziert, soll aber in den kommenden Wochen zunehmen. So fliegt Emirates Airlines Mauritius im Moment zwei mal wöchentlich (donnerstags und samstags) an, ab dem 16. gibt es montags und freitags Air Austral Flüge von La Réunion, Turkish Airlines startet freitags von Istanbul.
Angekündigt für Anfang nächsten Monats wurden bislang die Rückkehr von Saudia aus Saudi-Arabien, Air France (ab 6. August), Air Seychelles (Mahé), British Airways (London) und Evelop (Madrid ) . Air Madagascar (Antananarivo) und Corsair (Orly) ihrerseits sind nach Angaben des SSR-Flughafens mit Linienflügen nach Mauritius ab Anfang September dabei, Condor (Frankfurt) wird am 2. Oktober erwartet, auch Eurowings und Austrian Airlines. Die Ankunft von Air Belgium (neue Verbindung ab Brüssel) ist noch für den 16. Oktober geplant.In den kommenden Tagen werden die Möglichkeiten einer Wiederaufnahme der Alitalia-Flüge ermittelt.
Im Moment geht man von sechs bis sieben Flügen pro Woche aus, d.h. ein bis drei Flüge pro Fluggesellschaft. Darüber hinaus werden diese Unternehmen zunächst kleinere Flugzeuge mit weniger Sitzplätzen betreiben, um die voraussichtlich allmählich wachsende Nachfrage zu decken.
Am Flughafen ist ein Farbsystem sowie ein strukturiertes Protokoll etabliert. Ankünfte, die in geimpft und nicht geimpft kategorisiert sind, werden auf zwei verschiedene Sanitärkorridore geleitet, um ihre Hotels zu erreichen. Je nach Impfstoffklassifizierung erhalten die Passagiere ihre farbigen Karten. -
This was a long-awaited moment for many. Mauritius is finally reopening its borders to foreign nationals under certain conditions from this Thursday. Indeed, during this first phase of reopening, until the beginning of October, paid quarantine on arrival remains mandatory. However, the country is expecting to welcome more tourists compared to the last six months. According to Statistics Mauritius, only 3,225 tourist arrivals were recorded in Mauritius from January to June 2021. In the first six months of 2020, by contrast, there were still 304,881 tourist arrivals.
Three arrivals with a total of 730 passengers arrived in Mauritius on this first day. The Emirates flight EK 701 from Dubai arrived 20 minutes earlier. The frequency of flights is still reduced, but is expected to increase in the coming weeks. Emirates Airlines currently flies to Mauritius twice a week (Thursdays and Saturdays), from the 16th there will be Air Austral flights from La Réunion on Mondays and Fridays, and Turkish Airlines will take off from Istanbul on Fridays.
The return of Saudia from Saudi Arabia, Air France (from August 6th), Air Seychelles (Mahé), British Airways (London) and Evelop (Madrid) have been announced for the beginning of next month. Air Madagascar (Antananarivo) and Corsair (Orly), for their part, will be on board with scheduled flights to Mauritius from the beginning of September, according to the SSR airport, Condor (Frankfurt) is expected on October 2nd, as are Eurowings and Austrian Airlines. Air Belgium (new route from Brussels) is scheduled to arrive on October 16 and the possibility of resuming Alitalia flights will be investigated in the coming days.
At the moment it is assumed that there are six to seven flights a week, i.e. one to three flights per airline. In addition, these companies will initially operate smaller aircraft with fewer seats in order to meet expected gradually growing demand.
A color system and a structured protocol have been established at the airport. Arrivals categorized into vaccinated and unvaccinated will be directed to two different plumbing corridors to reach their hotels. Depending on the vaccine classification, the passengers receive their colored cards.
Unvaccinated travelers have to book one of the eight quarantine hotels for 14 days and are confined to their room. From day 14 and their third negative PCR test, they can move around freely.
As of last Monday more than 1,500 resrevations until 30 September had been registered. The Mauritius Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (AHRIM) is initially assuming an occupancy rate of 25% for the hotels, trend increasing.

worden. Seit gestern befindet sich unsere Schwesterinsel wieder im
Lockdown bis mindestens zum 3. August. Dies dürfte den Verantwortlichen
der Tourismusindustrie in Mauritius sicherlich einige Kopfschmerzen

Little by little, some protocols and the list of countries on the Red List were updated. And since yesterday, other instructions apply, in particular to the approved vaccinations. For example, the European Union accepts Oxford's AstraZeneca, but not Covishield. Both are accepted in Mauritius.
Réunion was on the red list until June 29th, then it was removed. Since yesterday our sister island has been in lockdown again until at least 3 August. Neben dem Optimismus in der Tourismusbranche, dass es nun endlich losgeht, gibt es aber aktuell auch Verhaltenheit innerhalb der Bevölkerung zu beobachten wie diese beiden Cartoons von gestern und heute ganz gut illustrieren. Kritische Punkte sind die lokalen Covid-19 Fallzahlen, die in den letzten Tagen für mauritische Verhältnisse hoch gingen. Es gibt noch immer Rote Zonen, knapp 2000 Personen befinden sich in diversen Quarantäneeinrichtungen, es hat Fälle von Infektionen in einzelnen Schulen gegeben, die an sich alle wieder geöffnet sein sollten. Die angestrebte kollektive Immunität ist noch lange nicht erreicht, Mauritius liegt aktuell bei etwas über 35 % bezogen auf doppelt Geimpfte und bei 48 % bezogen auf die 1. Dosis. Dazu die Sorge, dass auch Delta um sich greifen könnte. -
Beside the optimism in the tourism industry that things are finally getting started, there can be observed also some restraint among the population, as these two cartoons from yesterday and today illustrate quite well. Critical points are the local Covid-19 case numbers, which have been increasing by Mauritian standards in the last few days. There are still red zones, almost 2,000 people are in various quarantine facilities, there have been cases of infections in a few schools, all of which should have reopened by now. The desired collective immunity has not yet been achieved, Mauritius is currently slightly over 35% based on double dose vaccinations and 48% based on the 1st dose. In addition, the concern that Delta could also take hold. -
Es wird auch befürchtet, dass die Bedingung, sich für zwei Wochen in Covid-19 Safe Hotels einquartieren zu müssen, nicht wirklich attraktiv für internationale Touristen ist, die statistisch gesehen sowieso meist nicht länger als 2 Wochen buchen. Außer den hoteleigenen Angeboten bleibt da nicht viel von Mauritius zu entdecken.
Und noch weniger von Rodrigues. Da Quarantänehotels nur auf Mauritius angeboten werden, sehen die Betreiber touristischer Einrichtungen auf unserer Insel eigentlich keine Veränderung des jetzigen Status Quo bis Oktober. Niemand, der Rodrigues entdecken möchte, geht erst in Mauritius für zwei Wochen in ein Hotelresort um dann den Flieger zu nehmen und sich in ein Gästehaus oder kleineres Hotel einzuquartieren.
Dennoch, es ist ein Anfang. Und vielleicht können die Erfahrungen der kommenden Wochen auch helfen, wenn es dann um die Öffnung am 1. Oktober geht. Für den Umgang mit dem Virus innerhalb der Tourismusbranche könnten sich die Erfahrungen der kommenden Wochen als wichtig erweisen, denn eines ist klar, das Virus wird dann noch nicht weg sein. -
It is also feared that the condition of having to stay in Covid-19 Safe Hotels for two weeks is not really attractive for international tourists who, statistically speaking, usually do not stay longer than 2 weeks anyway. Apart from the hotel's own facilities, there rests not much to discover then in Mauritius.
And even less in Rodrigues. Since quarantine hotels are only offered on Mauritius, the Rodriguan operators of tourist facilities do not see any change in the current status quo until October. Nobody who wants a Rodrigues holiday will first go to a hotel resort in Mauritius for two weeks, take a flight to Rodrigues then and book accomodation in one of our many guest houses or smaller hotels.
Still, it's a start, maybe a stepping stone for the full reopening in October. The experiences of the coming weeks might prove important concerning the handling of the virus within the tourism sector, as one thing is clear, the virus will not have gone by then. -

Frankreich und die EU wurden von Mseauritius angeschrieben wegen der Akzeptanz von Covishield (AstraZeneca), vor 2 Tagen gab es die Meldung, dass Frankreich nun doch auch Covishield bei der Einreise nach Frankreich akzeptiert.
