"Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter...." oder " Wetter mit zwei Seiten...."

An so etwas mögen Yann Colas und seine Crew von Black Marlin gedacht haben, als sie letzte Woche fischen waren und sich dann das Wetter durch ein tropisches Tiefdruckgebiet rapide verschlechterte...Wie auch immer, hier ein kurzer Bericht von Black Marlin über eine Ausfahrt bei schwierigen Bedingungen mit einer ungewöhnlichen Ausbeute...7 rote Flaggen haben wir hier auf Rodrigues eher noch nie gesehen...

L'équipe de Black Marlin était si gentil de partager avec nous leur expérience d'une sortie de pêche la semaine dernière quand tous les autres étaient déjà assez occupés de se battre contre le mauvais temps à Port Mathurin...En plus, je ne me souviens pas d'avoir jamais vu 7 pavillons rouges...

7 rote Flaggen = 7 x schwerttragende Fische , 4 x Catch - 3 x Release of billfish...

"Da eine Reihe von Sportanglern den Februar wegen seiner Zyklonhäufigkeit vermeidet, landeten wir dieses Jahr mit noch 15 ausfahrtsfreien Tagen im Monat. Nach ein paar Tagen an Land begann die Besatzung jedoch ab dem 13. Februar der Ruf des Meeres zu jucken. Während BINGIZA sich noch in Madagaskar aufhielt, näherte sich Rodrigues ein anderes Tiefdruckgebiet mit einem Luftdruck von 1003 hPa.-

"As a number of sport anglers try to avoid the risk of cyclones in February, we ended up with 15 days "available" this month. After a few days ashore ... the call of the sea began to itch the crew. While the tropical cyclone BINGIZA made landfall in Madagascar, another low pressure system started to approach Rodrigues with an atmospheric pressure around 1003 hPa.-

"Nous nous sommes retrouvés avec 15 jours « disponibles en février 2011 » Un certain nombre de pêcheurs voulant éviter le risque cyclonique de ce mois. Après quelques jours à terre… dès le 13 février l’appel de la mer commençait à démanger l’équipage. Alors que le cyclone tropical BINGIZA atterrissait à Madagascar, une autre zone perturbée (suivie par peu de modèles) nous concernait directement avec une pression atmosphérique autour de 1003 hPa.


Yann liebt diese schwierigen Zeiten, wenn der Luftdruck abfällt. In den 21 Jahren, die wir im Indischen Ozean leben, konnten wir feststellen, dass dann das Fischen speziell für Marlin erfolgreicher ist. Und es gab keinerlei Warnungen, insofern kein Risiko innerhalb von 24 Stunden!

Yann loves these troubled times when the air pressure is dropping. The 21 years we have been here in the Indian Ocean we find that fishing is more successful then especially for marlin. As no alerts had been issued, we didn't expect any risk within 24 hours!

Yann aime ces périodes troublées quand la pression atmosphérique baisse. Depuis 21 ans que nous sommes dans l’Océan Indien nous constatons que la pêche y est plus fructueuse notamment pour les marlins. Aucune alerte en cours, aucun risque sous 24h !

East Bank - Banc de l'Est - Ostbank...
Rodrigues ist umgeben von einem großen Kontinentalplateau mit einer Duchschnittstiefe von 60 m, das sich westlich 21 und östlich 10 Seemeilen weit erstreckt mit zahlreichen Spots zum Jigging und Köderfischen. Die Ostbank befindet sich 50 Seemeilen entfernt und zieht auf einem Gebiet von auf 100 m² durch seine stark abfallenden Hänge , - von 2200 m bis 41 m - , und Strömung v.a. große Raubfische an.

Donnerstag 17. Februar 08.30 Uhr: Yann und seine drei Bootsmänner Fernaud, Steeve und Mario fahren ohne Kunden , also "just for fun" zur Ost-Bank. Das Meer ist sehr aufgewühlt, aber alle wissen, dass sie auf Black Marlin mit ihren 26 Tonnen in Sicherheit sind. Natürlich halten wir Satellitenkontakt. Am Abend, 17. Februar: Viel Aktivität auf der Bank, aber wenig Bisse (ein kleiner Marlin wurde zurückgesetzt).

Thursday, February 17 8:30 am: Without clients, Yann and his crew Fernaud, Steeve and Mario decide to go "just for fun" to the Eastbank. The sea is rough, but all know they are safe on Black Marlin and her 26 tons. Of course we keep in touch by satellite. The evening of the 17th shows much activity on the Bank but not too many strikes, a small marlin was tagged & released.

Jeudi 17 février 8h30 : Yann et ses 3 marins Fernaud, Steeve et Mario partent « pour le fun » sur le banc de l'EST… sans client. La mer est bien tonique, mais tous se savent en sécurité sur le Black et ses 26 tonnes. Bien sûr nous restons en contact satellitaire. 17 au soir : soir beaucoup d’activité sur le banc mais peu de prises (un petit marlin taggé relâché).

Port Mathurin - Freitag 18.02.2011...

In der Nacht begann das Schlechtwetttersystem sich zu intensivieren und sich Rodrigues zu nähern. An Land haben wir Wind von mehr als 30 km/Std. mit doppelt so starken Böen. Um 10:30 verlässt Yann die Nordseite der Bank.Kein schlechter Fang: ein kleiner zurückgesetzter Sailfish sowie ein paar nette Gelbflossenthune von 06 bis 8:30 Uhr. Doch auf dem Rückweg an der Südseite der Bank und dem Marlin-Boulevard von 10h 30 bis 15:30 Uhr dann der Wahnsinn! 8 Marlinstrikes, ein Marlin zurückgesetzt, 3 abgegangen und 4 gelandet, sowie schöne Gelbflossenthune, 8 zwischen 20 und 30 kg und 5 zwischen 40 und 52 kg, davon ein Hattrick.
Die Besatzung ist selbstverständlich begeistert, aber das Wetter drängt! Ankunft am Hafen am 18. um 22:30 Uhr mit 7 Fahnen!-

At night the system intensified while approaching Rodrigues and ashore we find that it was blowing more than 30 km/h gusting to 60. At 10:30 Yann left the north side of the Bank after some good fishing: a small sail tagged and released, and some nice yellowfin tuna caught between 06 to 8:30. But then, on the south side of the Bank and the "Marlin Boulevard" ... Simply madness! Until 3:30 pm 8 marlin strikes, 1 released, 3 lost and 4 boarded, as well as 8 beautiful yellow fin tuna between 20 and 30 kg, and 5 between 40 and 52 kg including a hat-trick. The crew is over the moon, but the weather is pressing! Arrival at the Port on the 18th at 10:30 pm with 7 flags!

Dans la nuit le système s’est intensifié en se rapprochant de Rodrigues et à terre nous trouvons que ça souffle de plus en plus 30 Km/h avec rafales à 60. A 10h30 Yann quitte le banc après une bonne pêche sur le côté Nord (un petit voilier taggé et relâché) et de jolis thons jaunes pris de 06h à 8h30. Sur le retour -côté Sud du banc- et sur marlins’ Boulevard de 10h 30 à 15H30…ce fut de la folie! 8 touches de marlins 1 relâché 3 décrochés 4 embarqués ainsi que de beaux thons jaunes 8 entre 20 et 30 kilos et 5 entre 40 et 52 kgs dont un triplé...L’équipage est aux anges forcément, mais Eole les presse de rentrer ! Arrivée au Port le 18 à 22h30 avec 7 fanions !

Rückblick:
Yann hat seine Archive durchsucht. 1997 organisiert der Big Game Fishing Club Reunion am 21. und 22. Februar einen internationalen Wettbewerb zwischen Reunion, Mauritius und Südafrika. Zu Gast: Zyklon Karlette. Am Morgen des 22. waren wir auf Zyklonwarnung. Die 22 Boote und ihre Besatzungen waren da, bereit um 6 Uhr herauszufahren...Selbstverständlich konnten die Organisatoren unter den Bedingungen eine Ausfahrt offiziell nicht genehmigen, Sicherheit geht vor! Einundzwanzig Strikes am Vortag, 7 gelandet und 1 Marlin zurückgestzt! Es dauerte nicht sehr lange, bis alle Boote auf eigene Gefahr losmachten. Dieser Sonntag, ein 23. Februar, ging zwar nicht in die Wertung ein, war aber noch besser als der Vortag! Die meisten Strikes fanden zwischen 11 und 14 Uhr statt. Mit von der Partie natürlich die gesamte Colas-Familie auf dem Boot Equate: Yann - damals noch nicht einmal 17 Jahre alt, Sophie mit 23 Jahren machte den Skipper, sowie Alain, der Vater. Mutter Annie war an Land am PC!

Der Ansatz einer Störung und/oder Senkung des Luftdrucks kann demnach sehr günstig fürs Fischen sein, Marline und Gelbflossenthune inbegriffen. Logisch, wenn man das einmal miterlebt hat, sich zu fragen, ob es beim nächsten Zyklon im Anmarsch wieder rausgeht (die Augen der Crew sprachen Bände...). Wir verstehen, dass die Zyklonsaison die Begeisterung einiger bremst, aber es kann auch eine große Chance sein, ein menschliches Abenteuer zu leben, 'marlinesque' und 'tithonesque', auf jeden Fall eine Erfahrung außerhalb des Gewöhnlichen! Bezogen auf die letzte Woche können wir zumindest sagen, "wir waren da" und man hat sehen können, dass sowohl die Crew mit ihrer Erfahrung wie auch das Boot bestanden haben.

"Yann has checked his archives. 1997 the Big Game Fishing Club Reunion organizes an international competition held on 21 and 22 February (Reunion-Mauritius-South Africa). Cyclone Karlette cut short the contest. In the morning of the 2nd: cyclone alert. " The 22 boats and their crews were there, ready to go at 6 am. Due to the alert, the organizers could not allow the contest to continue officially, security first! 21 strikes the previous day, 7 marlins boarded and 1 released...It did the owner of the boats not take very long to decide for giving it a try, everyone taking the risk for himself. And it got even better! Most strikes took place between 11 am and 2 pm. For sure, the whole Colas family was involved on boat Equate:Yann-not yet 17 years, skipper Sophie (23) and father Alain. Annie was on shore at the PC!

The decrease of atmospheric pressure can be very favorable for fishing including marlin and yellowfin tuna. In consequence, you will ask yourself if you go out next time when a cyclone is approaching. The eyes of our sailors seemed to say it all... We understand that the hurricane season can "curb the enthusiasm of some," but it can also be a great opportunity to live a human adventure, something out of the ordinary. Concerning last week, we can at least say, we were there, our boat proved to be safe and the crew experienced.

Yann a cherché dans ses archives. Le Big Game Fishing Club de la Réunion organisait les 21 et 22 Février 1997 une compétition internationale (Réunion Maurice Afrique du sud). Le cyclone KARLETTE écourta le concours. Le 22 au matin nous étions en vigilance cyclonique.! Les 22 bateaux et leurs équipages étaient là, prêts à en découdre dès 6h au Port de la Pointe des Galets. Les organisateurs ne pouvaient autoriser le concours, vigilance cyclonique oblige ! 21 touches la veille, 7 marlins embarqués et 1 relâché !! Il n’a pas fallu se concerter très longtemps pour que tous les bateaux s’élancent, sous la responsabilité de chacun. Ce dimanche 23 Février ne pouvait être officialisé, bien entendu, mais fut encore meilleur que la veille! La plupart des attaques eurent lieu entre 11 et 14h. La famille Colas était bien sûr de la partie sur son bateau Equata avec Yann - pas encore 17 ans, Sophie 23 ans skipper et Alain le père. Annie était à terre au PC !

L’approche d’une perturbation et/ou la baisse de la pression atmosphérique est donc très favorable à la pêche notamment pour les marlins et thons jaunes. Il suffisait de voir les yeux de nos marins…qui semblaient dire « Alors Captain, on y retourne au prochain cyclone ? Nous comprenons que la période cyclonique peut « freiner les ardeurs de certains » mais ce peut être aussi une belle opportunité de vivre une aventure humaine, marlinesque et tithonesque peu commune pour d’autres!

Parodiant les grognards de NAPOLEON, le Team Black Marlin du 17 et 18 février peut dire maintenant « on y était » ! En tout cas vous savez que même dans ce domaine, vous avez un équipage expérimenté sur un bateau sécurisant !
