Das Chinesische Frühlingsfest deutete sich in den letzten Tagen auch in Rodrigues an, einige chinesische Händler hatten gestern bereits geschlossen um sich auf ihr wichtigstes Fest vorzubereiten. Wer in der Barclay's Bank etwas zu erledigen hatte, wurde mit kleinen Snacks überrascht, die zum Fest unerläßlich sind, wie z.B. der 'gateau le cire'...Um Mitternacht konnte man die ersten Chinakracher hören, doch richtig los ging es wie sonst in den Jahren zuvor erst heute früh um 6 Uhr....

Und was bringt der Hase....?

First signs of the Chinese Spring Festival could also be observed during the last days in Rodrigues. Some Chinese shops were already closed yesterday in order to prepare for their most important festival of the year, and who had to do some business at Barclay's Bank was even offered some of the inevitable snacks which belong to each Chinese New Year as the 'Nian Gao cake', here called gateau le cire. The first Chinese crackers could be heard at midnight sharp, but as usually the ghosts of last year were intimidated starting by 6 o'clock on this morning...
