 Encounter of 3 tortoises

Heute habe ich mal ein wenig in meinem Entwürfe-Ordner des Blogs herumgestöbert, über die Jahre ist dort einiges liegengeblieben, manchmal nur Fragmente einer Idee, manchmal schon fast fertige Posts, denen nur noch ein letzter Schliff fehlte, eine Übersetzung oder das Einfügen von Links. Neben fast nostalgischen Momenten auch kleine Begegnungen, wie hier z.B. bei einem Besuch mit Nikki aus England im Tortoise Park François Leguat. Die Fotos sind im November und Dezember  2014 entstanden, bzw. Neujahr 2015...-

 

Today I rummaged through the draft folder of my blog, a lot has been left there over the years, sometimes just fragments of an idea, sometimes almost finished posts that only needed a last touch, a translation or the insertion of links. In addition to almost nostalgic moments, there are also small encounters, e.g. during a visit with Nikki from England in Tortoise Park François Leguat. The photos were taken in November and December 2014, respectively New Year 2015 ...-

 

Aujourd'hui j'ai fouillé un peu dans le dossier brouillon de mon blog, il y en a beaucoup resté au fil des ans, parfois juste des fragments d'une idée, parfois des articles presque terminés qui n'avaient besoin que d'une touche finale, d'une traduction ou de l'insertion de liens. En plus des moments presque nostalgiques, il y a aussi de petites rencontres, par ex. lors d'une visite avec Nikki de l'Angleterre au parc des tortues François Leguat. Les photos ont été prises en novembre et décembre 2014, respectivement Nouvel An 2015 ...

Dieser Flughund wurde von Nikki aufgenommen. Auch er weiß, was lecker ist. In seinem Fall sind es Syzygium aqueum, Wasseräpfel.-

La photo de cette chauve-souris était prise par Nikki et elle sait aussi ce qui est bon. Dans ce cas là ce sont des petites pommes de l'espèce Syzygium aqueum.

Ein rodriguischer "Heiler" beschaut sich Nikkis Fuß, eine gerissene Sehne markierte das Ende einer Wanderung um Neujahr 2015.-

Courage Valérie....

Als erstes möchte ich mich entschuldigen für die lange Zeit, in der ich mich hier gezwungenermaßen rar gemacht habe, selbst die Kuchen für Valérie konnten immer nur etappenweise ins Album geladen werden, nichtsdestotrotz heute scheint das Internet zu funktionieren, deshalb zuallererst für alle Freunde von Valérie, die letzten Entwicklungen.

Valérie war ab Donnerstag vorletzter Woche wieder in der Klinik, der Sturz hatte dazu geführt, dass sie nicht mehr sehen konnte.Sie wird nun im Intervall von 14 Tagen an beiden Augen operiert.Die erste Operation fand vorletzten Samstag statt, sie ist gut verlaufen, mit welchem Erfolg für ihre Sehfähigkeit wird man später sehen. Dies ist eine ganz wichtige Etappe für Valérie, die ansonsten eine unglaubliche Entwicklung gemacht gemacht hat. Sie kann sprechen, essen, ohne Hilfe laufen und ihr Gedächtnis funktioniert zu 100%. Die ersten Grüße von ihr gab es auch schon, was mich sehr berührt hat.

Für die erneute Herausforderung wünsche nicht nur ich ihr hiermit alles Gute, die Daumen werden weiterhin gedrückt,  und es gibt auch schon weitere Kuchen, die darauf warten ins Album zu kommen (abgesehen von all den Kuchen, die noch darauf warten untertitelt zu werden...))

First of all I want to apologize for the length of time in which I've made myself scarce, even the cakes for Valerie could only be loaded in stages into the album, nonetheless, today the Internet seems to be working , so first for all friends of Valerie, the latest developments.

Valerie has been again in the clinic, the fall had affected her eye sight, Valérie couldn't see anymore. She has to undergo two operations, one took already place on Saturday the week before.The next one on her right eye is scheduled for probably this week. This is a very important stage for Valerie, who otherwise has made an incredible development. She can talk, eat, walk unaided, and her memory works at 100%. The first greetings from her arrived via her husband André which was a very touching moment.

For this new challenge all her friends and I wish her all the best, the thumbs are up again, and there are more cakes waiting to get into her album (apart from all the cakes waiting to be subtitled  .. .)) -

D'abord toutes mes excuses pour la longueur de temps dans lequel je me suis fait rare ici, même les gâteaux pour Valérie ne pouvait chargés que infréquemment dans son album, néanmoins, aujourd'hui, l'Internet fonctionne, donc d'abord les derniers développements pour tous les amis de Valérie .

Entretemps Valérie a été à l'hôpital encore une fois, la chute a affecté sa vue, elle ne pouvait plus voir.Dans un intervalle de 14 jours elle va subir des opérations dans les deux yeux, la prémière opération était déjà samedi, le 21 juillet. Avec quelle succès on va savoir plus tard. La prochaine opération est prévue probablement pour cette semaine, à l' oeuil droite. Il s'agit d'une étape très importante pour Valérie, qui a fait un développement incroyable.Elle peut parler, manger, marcher sans aide, et sa mémoire fonctionne à 100%. Les premiers compliments d'elle sont arrivés ici , cela m'a touché beaucoup.

 

Pour le nouveau défi non seulement moi lui souhaite tout le meilleur, les doigts restent croisés et nous pensons tous très fort à elle. Et il ya encore plus de gâteaux qui sont en attente pour entrer dans l'album (apart de ceux qui attendent à être sous-titrés .. .)) -

UPDATE 11.08.2012:

I got a message of Valérie, her husband André helped by writing it down, her next operation of which she hopes that it will be the last one, will be this Monday, 13th of August. So all fingers will be crossed!

And she says thanks for all the great support!

Towel Day...Auch in Rodrigues...))

Heute ist Towel Day (Handtuchtag)..

Ohne Knut hätte ich nicht gewusst, worum es sich dabei handelt.-

Today is Towel Day.

And without Knut I hadn't known what it is all about.

Das ist Douglas Adams und ihm ist der Towel Day gewidmet, seit seinem Tod in 2001 wird er jedes Jahr am 25.Mai begangen. Seinen Science Fiction Kult-Klassiker "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxis" habe ich bis heute nicht in die Hände bekommen können, in dem Handtücher zu einem der wichtigsten Gegenstände im Universum überhaupt beschrieben sind.Aber was macht das schon, ich huldige ihm wegen eines anderen Buches, das ich hier schon mehrfach erwähnt habe "Last Chance to see" (Die letzten ihrer Art), in dem ganz zum Schluss auch Rodrigues vorkommt und die Begegnung mit einer kleinen Pflanze, die es nur hier auf der Welt gibt und die fast ausgestorben wäre.

Today is Towel Day. A day dedicated to Douglas Adams, since 2001 celebrated each year on 25th of May, 2 weeks after his death. Until now I haven't got a chance to read his science fiction cult classic "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" in which he described towels as one of the most important objects in the universe. But that doesn't really matter as for me I pay tribute to him today because of another book which I've already mentioned here a couple of times  "Last chance to see", in which in the very end even our island Rodrigues is mentioned (yes, Douglas Adams was in Rodrigues!!) describing the encounter with a small plant which at that time was the only of its kind on Earth, close to extinction.

Aber in diesem Buch geht es um weit mehr. Allein das Kapitel über Mauritius ist eine wahre Fundgrube in Bezug auf das, was Menschen in verhältnismäßig kurzer Zeit an einzigartiger Flora und Fauna zerstört haben und zeigt, wie schwer es in den 80er Jahren war, Arten wie den Kestrel, die Rosa Taube und den Echo Parakeet vor der endgültigen Ausrottung zu schützen. Anders als heute, hatten engagierte Umweltschützer wie Carl Jones, Begründer der Mauritius Wildlife Foundation - und mittlerweile Kandidat für einen wichtigen Umweltpreis -, mit großen Hürden, Widerstand und Unverständnis zu kämpfen, die Unterstützung, die heute fast selbstverständlich erscheint, ist hart erkämpft. Wie sehr, und mit welcher Entschiedenheit ist auch gerade Dank Douglas Adams Buch vielen Menschen nahe gebracht worden.

But there is much more to the book, alone the whole chapter about Mauritius is truly enlightening and shows how difficult it was in the 80s to protect species close to extinction like the Kestrel, the Pink Pigeon and the Echo Parakeet. Unlike nowadays, devoted conservationists like Carl Jones, founder of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and now candidate for a prestigious conservation prize, faced more obstacles, lack of understanding and resistance than support, and it is also thanks to Douglas Adams that millions of people know what kind of determination is needed of people like Carl Jones in order to take a stance for wildlife.

From critically endangered now listed as endangered - the Echo Parakeet,

 there were only 8 to 12 in 1986

The book ends with the prophetic sentence:

"I have the terrible feeling that we are in trouble."

Yet, this hasn't changed.

However - Don't panic!

Ich gestehe, mein Handtuch war nicht das allergrößte, mit dem ich am Towel Day unterwegs war, dass ich mich überhaupt traute, hat etwas mit Valérie zu tun, denn als sie noch im artifiziellen Koma war, nahm ich mir das Versprechen ab, dass sollte es ihr besser gehen, ich diesmal auch mit Handtuch herumlaufe...Am Tag meines Versprechens erhielt ich die Nachricht, dass sie nicht mehr im Koma war und sie auch nicht mehr künstlich beatmet wurde.Grund genug, neben dem Handtuch  auch noch das Buch von Adams mit herumzutragen...-


I admit, my towel was not the largest ever with which I roamed around in Port Mathurin, that I even dared is thanks to Valérie. When she was still kept in the artificial coma, I promised myself that at the smallest sign of progress I would grab a towel and walk around with it on Towel Day...On the day of that promise I learned later the afternoon that she was not anymore kept in the coma and able to breathe without the machine...So I made it a towel plus the book of Douglas Adams....
