Paul's World...80 - And the Journey goes on!

When somebody turns 80, it is inevitable to look back to some of the stations in life. I have been privileged to be asked by Paul so many times to scan his old photos whenever he found another one which he deemed to be important. I always copied them on to my computer just in case, or for an occasion like today.

This is the oldest photo of Paul which I know so far, he is the younger boy on the left together with his older brother. 
Paul was born on 24 August 1939, just a week before WWII started. He was nearly 6 when it ended, as he looks more like 5 on this pic, I guess the war was still ongoing....

Paul as voluntary "nurse" in Manchester , an alternative service for people objecting to join the army due to conscience related reasons

Paul and his band in England consisting mostly of Mauritian expats and students

Lots of visitors coming to Care-Co from Mauritius still know Paul from his time presenting the Top 10 on MBC Radio...

Here with the Archbishop of the Anglican Church, Trevor Huddleston whose support was decisive for the opening of Craft Aid Mauritius in Rose Belle and later for the Association behind the Gonzague Pierre Louis Learning Centre, the Trevor Huddleston House.

The founders of Craft Aid Mauritius in Rose Belle, an organisation with a similar approach to employ the disabled.

While Paul has turned 80 today, Care-Co has turned 30 and the school 25!

Click the pic to read page 186 of Tristan Bréville's impressive book "L'Île de Rodrigues", Paul tells us here about some stations of his life and how it happened that he came to Mauritius and Rodrigues, founding Care-Co in 1989.It's in Creole.

 And that was today, workers of Care-Co came along for wishing Paul all the best on this special day,
we shared even some sparkling wine...Marielle (2nd right) paid Paul a visit too...

Where will the journey go?

We only know that the journey goes on and that suitcases will be packed, and that is just fantastic!

There is Care-Co where we need you, and there is still a world outside which is worth to be discovered more. We all wish you the health and strength needed for further adventures in life whatever they are, and all the time for your brother, friends and the people around you in Rodrigues.

C'était le gâteau d'anniversaire de cette année pour Paul qui fête aujourd'hui son 79e. 

Damit auch ihm nie die Möhren für unseren kleinen Freund ausgehen, der mittlerweile selbst die Kundschaft und Besucher von Care-Co anzieht.-

So that he never runs out of carrots for our little friend, who now attracts even Care-Co customers and visitors.-

A birthday is always a day of memories...here with Nifty.-

Un anniversaire est toujours aussi une journée de mémoires...ici avec Nifty.

Leider musste Tiffy Paul und uns alle am 16. Januar verlassen. Er war müde, konnte und wollte nicht mehr. Wir werden seine Freundlichkeit nie vergessen ... und die Art, wie er uns beschäftigt hat, als Hündinnen der Nachbarschaft in Hitze waren ...-

Sadly, Tiffy had to leave Paul and us on January 16 . He was tired, refused to eat and drink, he just couldn't anymore. We will never forget his friendliness... and the way he kept us busy when females around the neighbourhood were on heat...-

Malheureusement, Tiffy a dû quitter Paul et nous le 16 janvier. Il était fatigué, refusait de la nourriture, il ne pouvait plus.Nous n'oublierons jamais sa gentillesse ... et la façon dont il nous a occupé lorsque les femelles dans le voisinage étaient en chaleur ...-

Doch nicht lange darauf, tauchte Klein-Chippie auf und adoptierte Paul.So geht das eben im echten Leben.-

Not long after that,little Chippie showed up and adopted Paul, which is how it works obviously in real life.-

Peu de temps après, Chippie s'est présentée et a adopté Paul, c'est ainsi que cela fonctionne dans la vraie vie.

Er widerum hat auch jemanden adoptiert und damit nochmals die Familie von Care-Co erweitert...-

Hühnersuppen helfen immer...Ein Debakel-WM Auftakt und ein Geburtstag...Happy Birthday, Dirk!

 

Ok, eigentlich wollten wir die WM in Russland boykottieren, aber wie es oft so ist, man kriegt doch mehr mit als man will. Es beginnt mit einem T-Shirt, das einem hiergelassen wird von einer deutschen Touristin, und bei Hühnersuppe und um Hühnersuppen herum, zeichnet es sich ab, das große Debakel der deutschen Nationalmannschaft.

Gestern haben sie ihr Auftaktspiel sensationell mit 0:1 gegen Mexiko verloren, worauf wir bereits gewettet hatten, zumindest eine von uns..., damit belegen sie heute in der Tabelle der Gruppe F 0 Punkte und damit zusammen mit Südkorea den letzten Platz.Wir wollen mal nicht unken aber es sieht nicht vielversprechend aus. 

Wie auch immer es weitergeht und was auch immer passiert, wir feiern heute Geburtstag, hören vielleicht später noch das Englandspiel gegen Tunesien und essen ganz sicher Hühnersuppe. 

Im Juni ist hier Winter, und Dirk kann gar nicht anders als dann die Suppenkelle schwingen...

Sehr zu empfehlen übrigens auch gewissen Fußballmannschaften in Russland, Hühnersuppen helfen immer...

In desem Sinne, alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Dirk, ein Danke für die vielen Suppen, die mich/uns durch viele Anfeindungen des Lebens brachten, Erkältungen und Grippe an erster Stelle...-

 

Okay, we actually wanted to boycott the World Cup in Russia, but as is often the case, you end up watching more than you wanted to. It starts with a T-shirt left here by a German tourist, and while preparing and eating chicken soup, the German national team's debacle is already in full swing...

Yesterday, they sensationally lost their opening match 0-1 against Mexico, which we had already bet on—at least one of us had... This means they now have 0 points in Group F, placing them in last place along with South Korea. We don't want to be pessimistic, but it doesn't look promising.

However things turn out, whatever happens, we're celebrating here a birthday today, maybe listening to the England vs. Tunisia game later, and we'll definitely be eating chicken soup.

It's winter here in June, and Dirk simply can't help but be in the kitchen making soup...

By the way, I highly recommend it to certain football teams in Russia; chicken soup always helps...

So, happy birthday, Dirk, and thank you for all the soups that have helped me/us through life's many challenges, especially colds and flu...!

Ein Kaninchen und ein Geburtstag - Paul turns 78!

Dieses Jahr musste sich Paul schon einiges einfallen lassen, damit ihm nicht die Show gestohlen wurde.-

This year Paul had to be rather inventive to make it his show...-

Cette année Paul a du être plutot inventive pour assurer que aujourd'hui c'était sa journée.

Denn seit dem Mittwoch vor Ostern hat Care-Co ein Kaninchen, es kam einfach und blieb.-

As since Wednesday before Easter Care-Co has a new resident, a bunny which just came along and decided to stay.-

Comme depuis mercredi avant Pâques, Care-Co a un nouveau résident, un lapin qui vient d'arriver et a décidé de rester.

Jeder liebt Cocolapin, wie die Arbeiter diese schwarzfellige Niedlichkeit  getauft haben, und der niemals zu müde ist um uns zum Lachen zu bringen oder uns um Möhren zu erleichtern.-

Everybody loves Cocolapin, how this black furred cutie was named by our workers, never too tired to make us laugh or to ask us for carrots.-

 

Tout le monde aime Cocolapin, comment ce mignon au poile noire était appellé par nos travailleurs, et il n'est jamais trop fatigué pour nous faire rire ou de nous demander des carottes...

Selbst Pauls Hunde, wie hier Tiffy, konnten dieser Charmeoffensive mit einer weißen Pfote nicht widerstehen...-

Even Paul's dogs, like Tiffy here, couldn't withstand this charm offensive with a white paw ...-

Même les chiens de Paul, comme Tiffy ici, ne pouvaient pas résister à cette offensive de charme avec une patte blanche ...-

 

 Vielleicht nicht die tiefste aller Freundschaften, aber friedliche Existenz auf alle Fälle.-

Maybe not the deepest of all friendships but peaceful co-existence to 100%.-

Peut-être pas la plus profonde de toutes les amitiés, mais une existence pacifique en tout cas.

 

Bei all dieser Aufmerksamkeit, wundert es denn auch nicht wirklich jemanden, dass ein Kaninchen sich frech auf Pauls Geburtstagskuchen gesetzt hat...:-) -

With all this attention, it doesn't really surprise anyone that a rabbit sat cheekily on Paul's birthday cake ... :-) -

Avec toute cette attention, cela ne surprend vraiment personne qu'un lapin soit assis effrontément sur le gâteau d'anniversaire de Paul ... :-)

Und dass Paul nicht umhin konnte, den Kuchen so anzuschneiden, dass das Kaninchen nicht in Mitleidenschaft gezogen wurde...-

And that Paul couldn't help but cut the cake so that the rabbit wasn't affected ...-

Et que Paul ne pouvait pas d'autrement que de couper le gâteau d'une manière pour que le lapin ne soit pas affecté ...-

Dass es überhaupt zum Anschneiden des Kuchens kam, verdanken wir Nifty...-

Ja, in der Tat, irgendwann wurde der Kuchen wirklich angeschnitten!-

Oui, à un certain moment, le gateau était vraiment coupé!

Natürlich mit dem Versprechen, Cocolapin auch im nächsten Lebensjahr soviele Möhren wie möglich bereitzuhalten. Nicht wirklich eine Strafe für Paul...-

With the promise, of course, to have as many carrots ready as possible for the next year of life. Not really a punishment for Paul ...-

Avec la promesse, bien sûr, d'avoir autant de carottes prêtes que possible pour la prochaine année de vie. Pas vraiment une punition pour Paul ...-

77 Jahre schon...!- Already 77...!- Déjà 77...!

Diesmal keine Bienen auf dem Kuchen, dafür aber ein Flugzeug, denn das ist eine von Pauls großen Leidenschaften.Ich kenne niemanden, der soviel über Flugzeuge weiß. Er ist der einzige auf Rodrigues, der seit Jahren ein Abo für ein Flugmagazin hat. Und klar, fliegen tut er auch gerne...!-

This time no bees on the cake, but an airplane, because that's one of Paul's great passions. I don't know anyone who knows so much about airplanes.He is the only one on Rodrigues who has had a subscription to a flight magazine for years. And of course, he also likes to fly ...!-

Cette fois, pas d'abeilles sur le gâteau, mais un avion, car c'est une des grandes passions de Paul Je ne connais personne qui en sache autant sur les avions.Il est le seul sur Rodrigues à être abonné à un magazine de bord depuis des années. Et bien sûr, il aime aussi voler ...!
