Nach unseren Informationen waren es lokale Fischer, die diese Entdeckung etwas früher machten und nachsehen wollten, ob das Säugetier noch lebt, aber leider ... Die Behörden wurden zum Tatort gerufen und sind noch vor Ort, um Proben zu entnehmen, die anschließend analysiert werden. Durch diese Proben können die genauen Ursachen ermittelt werden, die zum Tod des Wals geführt haben."-

According to our information, it was local fishermen who, a little earlier, made this discovery and went to check if the mammal was still alive, but alas... The authorities have been summoned to the scene and are still on site to take samples which will then be analyzed. Through these samples it can be determined the exact causes that caused the death of the cetacean." -

Selon nos informations, ce sont des pêcheurs de la localité qui, un peu plus tôt, ont fait cette découverte et sont allés vérifier si le mammifère était toujours en vie, mais hélas…

Les autorités ont été mandées sur les lieux et sont toujours sur place pour effectuer des prélèvements qui seront par la suite analysés. À travers ces échantillons, l’on pourra déterminer les causes exactes ayant provoqué la mort du cétacé."

Today we celebrate Chinese New Year, in Mauritius, and therefor in Rodrigues too, itä a public holiday...

 Nach dem Jahr des Ochsen, dem stärksten Tier der 12 chinesischen Tierkreiszeichen und bekannt als "der gute Helfer" in der chinesischen Landwirtschaft, das für Fleiß, Stärke, Ehrlichkeit, Bodenständigkeit und Reichtum steht, treten wir jetzt ein in das Jahr des (Wasser-)Tigers.-

After the Year of the Ox, the strongest animal of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, and known as "the good helper" in Chinese farming, and representing  diligence, strength, honesty, down-to-earth persistence, and wealth, we are now entering the Year of the (Water) Tiger.

Wie ich im Post Titel bereits angedeutet habe, ist es heute nicht unsere einzige Feier hier in Mauritius und Rodrigues, wir begehen auch den 187. Jahrestag der Abschaffung der Sklaverei. Der 1. Februar ist jedes Jahr ein Gedenktag, gewidmet den Sklaven unserer Region, nur durch den Mond haben wir den Zufall, dass das Chinesische Neujahrsfest auch auf diesen Feiertag gefallen ist.

As I mentioned in the post title, it is not our only celebration here in Mauritius and Rodrigues today, we celebrate too the 187th Anniversary of Abolition of Slavery. Every year on 1st of February it is a public holiday to commemorate the slaves of our region, only due to the moon we have the coincidence to celebrate two public holidays on the same day.

Covid-19 in Rodrigues : Chronology in Figures...Einfach nur die Zahlen...Juste les Chiffres....Updated frequently

 

 Rodrigues detected the island's first official local Covid-19 case on 26 January 2022. A woman with no travelling history in the recent past and to her knowledge not in contact with someone presenting the typical symptoms. Until now Patient Zero could not be traced. Contact tracing quickly showed that the virus was already present in quite some numbers of the population.

 27.01.2022:   66 active cases in total until  9.30pm, 

                      40 asymptomatic, 26 mild symptoms

28.01.2022:   68 active cases in total until  5.00am

28.01.2022: 282 active cases in total until 10.00pm

During the first days symptomatic cases were admitted to Mont Lubin Health Centre, asymptomatic cases to hotels changed to quarantine centres. New isolation protocols are announced for the next day.

29.01.2022: Measures taken when positive tested persons could not anymore accomodated in quarantine hotels due to saturation

- Semi Lockdown from 7.00pm to 6.00am until 10.02.2022

- Domiciliary Monitoring Unit put in place to monitor asymptomatic cases now transferred back home for self-isolation

The count stands now at 363 active cases in total.

Since the start of the outbreak 425 PCR Tests and 1, 415 Rapid Antigenic Tests (hospital)  were effected.

During the first days 53 % of all positive cases were under 18 years.

There was some confusion about the announced figures by MBC the day before.

Figures will be from now on communicated once a day for the previous day from midnight to 0.00am.

The vaccination progress is impressive, but note, with a population of about 44,000 there are still more than 9,000 who are not protected, mostly children under 12.

 

 

 

 

On 07.02.2022 a first patient in self-isolation died, a man of 39 years who suffered from comorbidities. Tested positive on 06.02.2022 when he went to the hospital for his foot infection, his condition deteriorated the next day with high fevers and respiratory problems. When eventually his family managed to get him to the hospital, he was already dead. An interne inquiry at the hospital attributed his death to his comorbidities.

On Monday, 07.02.2022, the Prime Minister postponed the upcoming elections in Rodrigues from 13.02.to 27.02.2022 due to the pandemic.

A second patient who was tested positive at home with underlying health issues died in home isolation, a woman of 81 years. Both deceased persons were buried on 08.02.2022 at Baie Lascar Cemetary. Please note that this death was not mentioned in the briefings, nor was the figure deducted from active cases accordingly, it should read 3,748 active cases. 

The Semi-Lockdown has been extended to 24.02.2022.

 Please note, it's the first time that a patient is on a ventilator. 

 

Sequencing results in all samples sent in confirm the expected presesence of variant Omicron in Rodrigues.

 

The three flights announced two days ago for 15(1) & 18 (2) February will be operated with mandatory 7 days quarantine in a hotel plus test protocol.

As Delta is still present in the Mauritian community, the risk of spreading and introducing it here needs still to be avoided.

 

As to the vaccination progress compared to the week before one can see that more children received their second dose. The vaccination campaign will be continued from Monday, 13.02.2022 on. 5 doctors and staff of the DMU will assist in the operation in order to accelerate the progress. Beside QEH, vaccination will take place also in Mont Plaisir.

 

Please note, on 14.02.2022 the patient on the ventilator died at 3am at age 72. It was Marlin Augustin, Rodrigues' famous accordionist.Similar to the previous 2 victims his death was attributed to his comorbidities.

This morning I learned that a woman of 65 years who was admitted at MHLC died too. It was reported in Le Mauricien. 

 

On Friday night at about 9pm an 80 year old man who was on a ventilator died at age 80.

 

 

 

Due to an article at Le Mauricien, another patient died at MLHC in the night to Sunday. The man was 70 years old and suffered from cancer.

There was also a woman at MLHC from Grand La Fouche Mangue who died at age 66 on Sunday.

 Friday, on 24.02.2022, the semi lockdown imposed on Rodrigues since 29.01.2022, is going to end.

Covid-19: Black Rhino stuck in Mauritius ...Des cas de Covid-19 dans l'équipage...Rodrigues Regale leeren sich

 

Drei Besatzungsmitglieder des Frachters Black Rhino wurden am Montag, dem 17. Januar, positiv auf Covid-19 getestet, der „Meister“, der „Oberingenieur“ sowie der „Zweite Ingenieur“. 

Ursprünglich sollte die Black Rhino am Dienstag um 17 Uhr Mauritius in Richtung Port Mathurin verlassen. Aber mit dem Nachweis von drei positiven Fällen von Covid-19 unter den Besatzungsmitgliedern war das Schiff gezwungen, wie im Gesundheitsprotokoll vorgeschrieben, am Dock zu bleiben. Die Reise musste abgesagt werden. Der Frachter, der am Dienstagnachmittag 174 Container, die insbesondere Lebensmittel enthalten, nach Port Mathurin verladen sollte, konnte die Reise nicht antreten. 

Nur 4 Tage vor dem Nominierungstag in Rodrigues sitzen neun Polizeifahrzeuge, die für die nächsten Regionalwahlen eingesetzt werden sollen, auf dem Schiff fest. Ein Mitarbeiter des Fischereiministeriums, der kontaktiert wurde, sprcht von einem Plan B, den es gäbe. Oder dass die Mauritius Trochetia die Reise macht. Ob diese Option gewählt wurde, wird sich jedoch nicht vor dem 23.Januar zeigen, da die Mauritius Trochetia am Montag in Agalega vor Anker ging. Mittlerweile breitet sich auch die Sorge vor Lebensmittelknappheit auf Rodrigues aus. -

Three crew members of the Black Rhino freighter tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday January 17. These are the ʹMasterʹ, the ʹchief engineerʹ and the ʹsecond engineerʹ. 

The Black Rhino was originally scheduled to leave Mauritius at 5 p.m. on Tuesday for Port-Mathurin. But with the detection of three positive cases of Covid-19 among the crew members, the ship was forced to remain at the dock as stipulated in the health protocol. The trip had to be cancelled. The freighter which was to embark 174 containers, which contain food in particular, bound for Port-Mathurin on Tuesday afternoon could not make the trip. 

At just 4 days until Nomination Day in Rodrigues, nine police vehicles that will be deployed for the next regional elections find themselves stuck on the ship. Contacted, an employee of the Ministry of Fisheries says he has a plan B. Or, that the Mauritius Trochetia makes the trip. However, we will have to wait until January 23 to find out if this option has been chosen because the Mauritius Trochetia anchored in Agalega on Monday. In the meantime, the fear of a shortage of food products is spreading in Rodrigues. -

Trois membres d’équipage du cargo Black Rhino ont été testés positifs à la Covid-19, lundi 17 janvier.  Il s’agit du ʹMasterʹ, du ʹchief engineer ʹ et du ʹsecond engineer ʹ.

Le Black Rhino devait initialement quitter Maurice à 17 heures ce mardi pour Port-Mathurin.

Mais avec la détection de trois cas positifs à la Covid-19 parmi les membres d’équipage le navire a été contraint de rester à quai comme le stipule le protocole sanitaire. Le trajet a dû être annulé.

Le cargo qui devait embarquer 174 conteneurs, qui renferment notamment de la nourriture, à destination de Port-Mathurin ce mardi après-midi n’a pu effectuer le trajet.

A j moins 4 du Nomination Day à Rodrigues, neuf véhicules de police qui seront déployés pour les prochaines élections régionales se retrouvent coincés sur le navire. 

Contacté, un préposé du ministère de la Pêche dit avoir un plan B.

Soit, que le  Mauritius Trochetia effectue le trajet.

Cependant, il faudra patienter jusqu’au 23 janvier prochain pour savoir si cette option a été retenue car le Mauritius Trochetia a jeté l’ancre à Agalega lundi.

En attendant, la crainte d’une pénurie de produits alimentaires gagne Rodrigues.

 

In einem Artikel im Le Mauricien vom 19.01. konnte man lesen, dass es mittlerweile wohl auch noch einen 4. entdeckten Covid-19 Fall gibt. Bislang ist noch nicht geklärt, wann die Black Rhino ablegen  oder durch die Mauritius Trochetia ersetzt werden kann.

Gestern in den verschiedenen Läden in Port Mathurin konnte man viele leere Regale sehen, und so ziemlich jede/r, versuchte seine Vorräte aufzustocken, mit dem was noch vorhanden war. Dies betrifft v.a. Kartoffeln, Zwiebeln, Reis und Speiseöl.-

In an article in Le Mauricien from 19.01. a 4th discovered Covid-19 case was mentioned. So far it has not been clarified when the Black Rhino can leave or be replaced by the Mauritius Trochetia.  

Lots of empty shelves could be seen in the various shops in Port Mathurin yesterday and pretty much everyone was trying to stock up on what was left. This applies in particular to potatoes, onions, rice and cooking oil. -

Dans un article du Mauricien du 19.01. un 4ième cas de Covid-19 sur le Black Rhino était mentionné. Jusqu'à présent, il n'a pas été précisé quand le navire peut partir ou être remplacé par le Mauritius Trochetia.  

Beaucoup d'étagères vides étaient visibles dans les différents magasins de Port Mathurin hier et à peu près tout le monde essayait de s'approvisionner avec ce qui restait. Cela s'applique en particulier aux pommes de terre, aux oignons, au riz et à l'huile de cuisson.

Covid-19: Controlled Opening of Rodrigues cancelled until 30.11.2021 due the pandemic in Mauritius!

Es dauerte heute ein wenig bis diese Meldung uns in Rodrigues erreichte, und sie war es offenbar auch nicht wert, sie in den Abendnachrichten, weder im rodriguischen noch im mauritischen Teil vorzustellen und zu kommentieren.Aber vielleicht habe ich ja auch nur etwas verpasst... -

It took a while today until this information reached us in Rodrigues, and it was evidently not important enough to be presented or commented on in the evening news, neither in the Rodriguian nor in the Mauritian part. But maybe I have only missed something... -

 

Il a fallu du temps aujourd'hui pour que cette information nous parvienne à Rodrigues, et cela ne valait évidemment pas la peine d'être présentée ou commentée dans le journal du soir, ni dans la partie rodriguaise ni dans la partie mauricienne. Mais peut-être j'ai seulement raté quelque chose....                                                        

 

Rodrigues: Die ursprünglich für heute geplante Wiedereröffnung der Grenzen verschoben

Heute wird es keine Landung kommerzieller Flüge in Plaine Corail, Rodrigues geben. Die Wiedereröffnung der Grenzen von Rodrigues wurde erneut auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt verschoben. Die Behörden arbeiten derzeit an einem neuen Gesundheitsprotokoll. 

Die Verbreitung der Delta-Variante von Covid 19 auf Mauritius ließ das Schlimmste für die Entwicklung der Gesundheitslage in Rodrigues befürchten. Der Luftraum von Rodrigues bleibt weiterhin für kommerzielle Flüge von Mauritius gesperrt. Ursprünglich sollten die ersten ATRs von Air Mauritius am Montag, 15. November, in Plaine Corail landen, nach einer Verschiebung am 1. November. 

Ende letzter Woche wurde innerhalb der nationalen Luftfahrtgesellschaft eine interne Pressemitteilung verbreitet, in der bestätigt wurde, dass vor dem 30. November 2021 keine kommerziellen Flüge nach Rodrigues geplant sind. 

Auf Seiten der Behörden wird davon ausgegangen, dass das Gesundheitsministerium derzeit an einem neuen Protokoll arbeitet, um eine Ansteckungswelle mit Covid-19 auf der Insel um jeden Preis zu vermeiden. Sowohl die Zentralregierung als auch die Behörden von Rodrigues sind sich der Einschränkungen der Insel in Bezug auf medizinisches Personal und Logistik bewusst. 

Es wurde noch kein Datum für eine Wiederaufnahme der Flugaktivitäten von und nach Rodrigues genannt. Es sei daran erinnert, dass der Widerstand gegen die Wiedereröffnung der Grenzen ohne zwei Wochen Quarantäne zu Straßendemonstrationen am Wochenende in Port Mathurin und Pointe Canon geführt hatte. Während der Minderheitenführer eine Dringlichkeitssitzung der Regionalversammlung gefordert hatte, um das ganze Thema zu erörtern. -

Rodrigues: the reopening of the borders initially scheduled for today postponed

The landing of commercial flights at Plaine Corail, Rodrigues, is not for today. The reopening of Rodrigues' borders has again been postponed to a later date. The authorities are currently working on a new health protocol. 

The spread of the Delta variant of Covid 19 in Mauritius has raised fears of the worst for the development of the health situation in Rodrigues. Rodrigues airspace still remains closed to commercial flights from Mauritius. Initially, the first Air Mauritius ATRs were due to land at Plaine Corail on Monday, November 15, after a postponement on November 1. 

An internal press release was circulated at the end of last week within the national aviation company, confirming that no commercial flights are scheduled to Rodrigues before November 30, 2021. 

On the side of the authorities, it is understood that the Ministry of Health is currently working on a new protocol, in order to avoid at all costs a wave of contamination with Covid 19 on the island. 

The central government, as well as the Rodriguan authorities, are aware of the island's limitations in terms of medical personnel and logistics. 

No date has yet been mentioned for a resumption of air activities to and from Rodrigues. 

It will be recalled that opposition to the reopening of the borders without the 14 days of quarantine had given rise to street demonstrations at the weekend in Port Mathurin and Pointe Canon. While the Minority Leader had called for an emergency convening of the Regional Assembly to discuss the whole issue. -

Rodrigues : la réouverture des frontières initialement prévue pour aujourd’hui reportée

L’atterrissage des vols commerciaux à Plaine Corail, Rodrigues, n’est pas pour aujourd’hui. La réouverture des frontières de Rodrigues a de nouveau été reportée à une date ultérieure.  

Les autorités travaillent actuellement sur un nouveau protocole sanitaire.

La propagation du variant Delta de la Covid 19 à Maurice, a fait craindre le pire, pour l’évolution de la situation sanitaire à Rodrigues.   

L’espace aérien de Rodrigues reste toujours fermé aux vols commerciaux en provenance de Maurice. Initialement, les premiers ATR d’Air Mauritius devaient atterrir à Plaine Corail, ce lundi 15 novembre, après un report le 1er novembre dernier.

Un communiqué interne a été circulé en fin de la semaine dernière au sein de la compagnie nationale d’aviation, confirmant qu’aucun vol commercial n’est au programme vers Rodrigues avant le 30 novembre 2021.

Du côté des autorités, on fait comprendre que le ministère de la Santé travaille actuellement sur un nouveau protocole, afin d’éviter à tout prix une vague de contaminations à la Covid 19 dans l’île.

Le gouvernement central, de même que les autorités rodriguaises sont conscientes des limites de l’île en matière de personnel médical et de logistiques. 

Aucune date n’a pour l’heure été mentionnée pour une reprise des activités aériennes vers et de Rodrigues.

On se rappellera que l’opposition à la réouverture des frontières sans la quatorzaine avait donné lieu à des manifestations de rue, en fin de semaine, à Port Mathurin et à Pointe Canon. Alors que le Minority Leader avait demandé une convocation d’urgence de l’Assemblée régionale pour discuter de toute la question.

Covid-19: New restrictions as from 12 November to 13 December ....Neue Corona-Regeln in Mauritius...Nouvelles restrictions

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth hat heute eine Reihe von Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung der Covid-19-Pandemie und der Delta-Variante angekündigt. In einer Erklärung an die Nation, die im nationalen Fernsehen gesendet wurde, kündigte er an, dass die Maßnahmen ab dem 12. November ab 6 Uhr morgens in Kraft treten und sich "je nach Entwicklung der Lage" bis zum 13. Dezember erstrecken würden. 

Er bezog sich auf  "die Ansteckungs- und Todesrate", die zugenommen hat , insbesondere mit der Reihe von Feiertagen in der vergangenen Woche. 

- Die Zahl der Versammlungsberechtigten ist jetzt auf 50 begrenzt, mit Gültigkeit auch für Hochzeiten und Beerdigungen, die vorher polizeilich angemeldet werden müssen. 

- Der Zutritt zu Sportanlagen und Turnhallen wird ebenfalls nur einer maximalen Anzahl von 50 Personen gestattet, die alle vollständig geimpft sein müssen. 

- Outdoor-Sport nur für „voll geimpfte“ Personen

- In Gotteshäusern /Kultstätten dürfen sich maximal zehn Personen gleichzeitig aufhalten. 

- Pferderennen werden „unter Ausschluss der Öffentlichkeit“ mit maximal 150 Mitarbeitern ausgetragen. 

- Öffentliche und private Schulen (Grund-, Sekundar-, Tertiär), nur Online-Kurse. 

- Kinderkrippen und Kitas bleiben geöffnet 

- Home Office im privaten und öffentlichen Sektor wo möglich

- Restaurants und Food-Courts sind nur für geimpfte Personen zugänglich, (Maskenpflicht für Mitarbeiter, Tischabstand 2m, Lüftung,wo nötig.) .

- Die Strände werden geöffnet sein, aber Picknicks sind verboten. 

- Die Fitnessparcours und öffentlichen Parks bleiben geöffnet.

Zu den verbotenen Aktivitäten: 

- Spielplätze 

- Bars und Diskotheken 

- Konzerte und Sportwettkämpfe 

- soziokulturelle Aktivitäten 

- Gemeindezentren / Dorfhallen  

- Hallen für Empfänge

Alle Hygienemaßnahmen wie Abstandsregelung, Maskentragen, Händedesinfektion und Lüften geschlossener Räume sind einzuhalten.  

 

 

Today Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced a series of measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and the Delta variant. In a statement to the nation, intervened on national television, he indicated that the measures will come into force from November 12 from 6 am and will extend until December 13 “depending on the evolution of the situation".

He said "the rate of contamination and death has increased", especially with the "series of public holidays" last week. 

- The number of people authorized to assemble is now limited to 50. Measure applicable to weddings and funerals. Access to the sports complex and gymnasium will only be permitted to a maximum number of 50 people, all of whom must be fully vaccinated. 

- As for outdoor sports, they will only be allowed to “fully vaccinated” people. 

- A maximum of ten people will be allowed in places of worship. 

- Public and private schools (primary, secondary, tertiary), online courses only. 

- Nurseries and daycare centres remain open

- Home Office where possible in the private and public sectors

- Horse races will be held “in camera” with a maximum of 150 employees. 

- Restaurants and food courts will only be accessible to vaccinated people. 

- The beaches will be open but picnics will be prohibited. 

- The fitness trails and public gardens remain open

 As to the prohibited activities:

- Playgrounds

- Bars and discos

- Concerts and sports competitions  

- socio-cult ural activities

- community centres/village halls 

- Reception halls

All sanitary measures as social distancing, mask wearing, hand-sanitizing and airing of closed spaces must be respected.

Dans une déclaration à la nation, intervenue à la télévision nationale, il a indiqué que les mesures entreront en vigueur à compter du 12 novembre à partir de 6h du matin et s’étendront jusqu’au 13 décembre “dépendant de l’évolution de la situation”.

Il a indiqué que “le taux de contamination et de décès a augmenté”, notamment avec la “série de congés publics” la semaine dernière.

- Le nombre de personne autorisées à se rassembler est désormais limité à 50. Mesure applicable pour les mariages et enterrements.

- L’accès au complexe sportif et gymnase ne sera autorisé qu’à un nombre maximum de 50 personnes, qui doivent être tous “fully vaccinated”. Quant aux sports en plein air, ils ne seront autorisés qu’aux personnes “fully vaccinated”.

- Un maximum de dix personnes sera autorisé dans les lieux de culte.

- Écoles publiques et privées (primaire, secondaire, tertiaire) , cours en ligne seulement.

- Crèches et garderies ouvertes

- Les courses hippiques se tiendront “in camera” avec un maximum de 150 employés.

- Les restaurants et food courts ne seront accessibles qu’aux personnes vaccinées.

- Le Work from Home privilégié dans les secteurs publcs et privé.

- Les plages seront ouvertes mais les pique-niques y seront interdits.

- Les parcours de santé et jardins publics restent ouverts

Concernant les activités interdites : 

- Jardins d'enfants 

- Bars et discothèques 

- Concerts et compétitions sportives   

- activités socio-culturelles  

- Centres Communautaires /Village Halls/CAB

- Salles de réception  

Toutes les mesures sanitaires telles que la distanciation sociale, le port du masque, la désinfection des mains et l'aération des espaces clos doivent être respectées.
