Minamisanrikucho, die Stadt, die der Tsunami höchstwahrscheinlich am schlimmsten getroffen hat, fast 10 000 Menschen gelten als vermisst, fast die Hälfte der dortigen Bevölkerung.

For quite a long time already I have been asking myself how all Search & Rescue teams cope with their various deployments, very often with only little time in between two disasters. This time there is in addition the risk of nuclear radiation. I can only wish all helpers and dogs good luck for the work laying ahead, that more survivors than casualties will be found, and that everyone will be back home later sound and safe!

Ich frage mich seit mehren Jahren, wie diese ganzen Rettungsdienste ihre Arbeit verkraften, kaum aus einem Notstandsgebiet heraus, ruft ein neues Katastrophengebiet. In diesem Fall kommt nun auch noch das Risiko der Verstrahlung hinzu.

Allen Helfern und Hunden viel Glück bei ihrer schweren Aufgabe in Japan, in der Hoffnung , dass mehr Lebende als Tote geborgen werden und dass alle ihren Einsatz gesund überstehen!

東北地方太平洋沖地震 - Sendai Earthquake & Tsunami

Today Japan was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake that created tsunami waves of up to 10 metres. The earthquake focus was reported to be off the Oshika Peninsula, the east coast of Tōhoku on 11 March 2011, at 05:46 UTC (14:46 local time) at a depth of 24.4 kilometres (15.2 mi). Das schlimme Erdbeben und der Tsunami heute an der Nordostküste in Japan hat mindestens 1000 Menschen getötet. 530 sind vermisst und man befürchtet noch mehr Tote, da auch der Verbleib von 2 Zügen mit einer unbekannten Anzahl von Passagieren sowie ein Schiff mit 100 Personen an Bord, das vom Tsunami weggeschwemmt wurde, bislang nicht geklärt werden konnten.

Es ist das schwerste Beben in Japan seit vor 140 Jahren mit Aufzeichnungen begonnen wurde und das 7.schwerste weltweit. Tsunami Warnung gab es für den gesamten pazifischen Raum und seiner Anliegerstaaten.

News reports indicate that at least 1000 people have died and another 530 are missing in six different prefectures, although it is feared the total number of dead could be far higher. It has been confirmed that two passenger trains containing an unknown number of passengers have disappeared on a coastal area during the tsunami. It has also been confirmed that a ship carrying 100 people was swept away by the tsunami. The current status of the ship is still unknown.

It is the largest earthquake to hit Japan in recorded history and the seventh largest in the world since records began. Tsunami alerts were issued for the whole Pacific region.

Neben z.T. schweren Nachbeben, hat Japan vor allem mit starken Feuern zu kämpfen sowie der Gefahr von Radioaktivität durch die Situation im AKW von Fukushima nachdem dort das Kühlsystem ausgefallen war, nun nur durch Batterien betrieben, hat sich der Druck verstärkt. Japan hat internationale Hilfe v.a. zur Brandbekämpfung und zum Aufspüren Verschütteter angefordert.

22.50 (dt.Zeit): In der Umgebung des Atomkraftwerks Fukushima Daiichi steigt die Radioaktivität, wie die Behörden mitteilten. Die Evakuierungen wurden ausgeweitet. Medienberichten zufolge soll der Wert über dem 1000-fachen des Normalwerts liegen.

Beside aftershocks and another quake in the evening, Japan has still to deal with some serious fires and the danger of radioactivity from Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. Following the failure of the cooling system, and now backed up only by battery-, Japan has declared state of nuclear emergency. People living in this area were evacuated. And Japan needs help...especially fire-fighters and Search & Rescue teams with sniffer dogs to find people under the debris...
