I know, the times in which we are currently in do not really call for April Fool's jokes, this cartoon which I found in Le Mauricien reflects maybe best what is on people's mind. Concerning the word play used it is necessary to know, just for the few among you not familiar with French, that Poisson d'avril is the April Fool's joke in itself, poisson means fish whereas poison means the same in English...-
Nachtrag:
Früher liefen am 1. April Kinder in französischsprechenden Ländern Leuten hinterher und versuchten an deren Rückkleidung ein kleines Papierfischchen anzubringen.Daher der Name.-
Originally on 1 April, kids from French speaking countries run after people in order to fix a little fish made from paper onto the back of their "victims". Hence the name.
