Eigenlich wollte ich heute Nacht (Samstag) etwas Unbeschwertes posten, etwas zu Ostern, den bevorstehenden Feiertagen, das mache ich vielleicht auch noch, aber vor ein paar Stunden erst habe ich erfahren, dass es heute Mittag in Mauritius heftige Regenfälle gab, die vor allem die Innenstadt um Caudan in Port Louis lahmlegte. Dies passiert nicht zum ersten Mal, diesmal jedoch mit tragischen Folgen, 8 Tote, 1 Vermisster und 82 Verletzte ist die traurige Bilanz eines Tages, der die Bevölkerung, die Politiker und die lokale Presse sicher nicht nur die nächsten Tage nachhaltig beschäftigen wird.Ostern wird da zu einer Randnotiz.-
Today evening (Saturday) I had in mind to post something really carefree, something connected to Easter, the upcoming holidays, I might still do that later, but after today's tragic consequences of the torrential rainfalls hitting Mauritius, it is difficult to switch to another topic.Only a few hours ago, I learned about the heavy rainfalls which especially paralysed the Caudan area in Port Louis. This does not happen for the first time but this time with the sad outcome of 8 people dead in the floods and 82 injured. An outcome which certainly will keep the population, politicians and the local press busy not only for the next couple of days.Our sympathy is with the families who have to bear the loss of their loved ones.

"Torrential rain of an intensity never witnessed in Mauritius flooded roads on Saturday, March 30, overturning cars and stranding thousands of motorists. About 30 vehicles were involved in a multiple-vehicle pileup near Hindu House, Port Louis. Some of the vehicles were completely damaged.
More than three hours of solid rainfall starting at 1:00 pm flooded the streets of the capital and Plaines Wilhems paralyzing public transportation, causing traffic chaos. 150 mm rainfall was recorded in Port Louis in an interval of three hours."
Eight persons are reported dead from the flood. Two of them are mother and son who owned a shop in the under path of Caudan Waterfront. They were drowned, trapped in the shop."
Die Bilanz wiegt in der Tat schwer, in einem Wohnviertel sind mehr als 80% der Häuser nicht mehr bewohnbar, viele Menschen in den betroffenen Gebieten haben alles verloren, da das Wasser und der Schlamm Vorräte, Mobiliar und andere Werte zerstörte.-

In the meantime Prime Minister Ramgolam declared 1 April a day of mourning, today 3 more victims were found today..
"Le lundi 1er avril sera férié à Maurice. Le Premier ministre Navin Ramgoolam a annoncé aujourd’hui, lors d’un point presse, un jour de deuil national dans le pays ce lundi. Il a également renouvelé ses condoléances aux familles des victimes, rapporte Defimedia.
Pour le chef du gouvernement, il s’agit d’une "catastrophe naturelle" imprévisible. Il explique qu’un "torrent d’eau est descendu violemment de la montagne des Signaux. C’est cette quantité d’eau et surtout la vitesse à laquelle elle est descendue qui a provoqué cette tragédie humaine".
