Around Rodrigues Cup 2009 - Don't miss it !!!

For the first time in Rodrigues history, a sailing regatta will take place from June 20 to 22. It will be done in 3 parts. On Saturday at 9.00 o'clock 8 registered yachts, each with locals on board, will depart from Port Mathurin going east to Ile Hermitage with a BBQ break at Ile Hermitage to join then on Sunday the traditional Rodrigues regatta with locals in the lagoon facing Mourouk Hotel. Monday there will be the longer second leg for the yachts from Grande Passe back to Port Mathurin.

At Grand Baie this event will be closed on Monday evening with a price giving ceremony and a buffet at Cabane de Pêcheurs , for those who would like to join the buffet which is at Rs 500, please contact Sylvestre today (phone:978 5615) .

We wish all participants and observers a great regatta!!!By the way, here you don't see a pirate, it's Olivier from S/Y Mary-Ann busy at organizing some details for the event this Wednesday at the Tourisme Office. Together with some friends he had the idea, considering the many yachts who called at Port Mathurin so far this season. At this time of the year we have never had so many of them in Rodrigues, in a certain way we have "to thank" the pirates, because of their activities in the Indian Ocean a lot of circumnavigators changed course and came here instead of heading to the Seychelles. Their idea was not only well received by the population but also by the Commission of Youth & Sports and the Tourism Office, some sponsors could be found too.This week in the harbour of Port Mathurin...and there are still some not on the photo...

Ce samedi 20 Juin Rodrigues voit une grande première, le "Around Rodrigues Cup", une régate des voiliers qui sont en escale actuellement dans le port de notre petite capitale.Trois étapes sont aux programme, la première en passant par l'est de Rodrigues avec l'arrivée au large de la Grande passe de Port Sud Est, ensuite le Dimanche 21 Juin une 2ème étape à bord des pirogues rodriguaises, les propriétaires de chaque voilier seront embarqué sur une pirogue pour une régate dans le lagon du sud-est en face de l'lhôtel Mourouk Ebony, et pour terminer, la plus longue étape qui démarre au large de la Grande Passe pour contourner l'île par l'ouest avec l'arrivée finale au large de Port Mathurin.

Soirée barbecue le samedi soir sur l'île Hermitage, buffet au Mourouk Ebony Hotel le dimanche et pour la clôture l'évènement une grosse soirée remise des prix à Grand Baie (chez notre cher ami Sylveste). Pour ceux qui aiment participer au buffet du lundi (Rs 500), reservations devraient être fait avec Sylvestre aujourd'hui ( ph: 978 56 15).
