I Am The Snake
Schlangen haben eine Geschichte in unseren Mythen und in unseren Köpfen, ob als raffinierte Verführerin im Garten Eden, gewunden um den Kopf der Medusa oder als Todesursache von Cleopatra, Schlangen lassen uns nicht kalt.
Im chinesischen Kalender markiert heute am 10. Februar die Schlange den Übergang vom Jahr des Drachen zu sich, dem m 6.Tier im Zyklus und nach chinesischer Tradition haben die im Jahr der Schlange Geborenen angeblich eine Vorliebe für materiellen Reichtum. Aber sie gelten auch als lebendig, kreativ, bezaubernd, introspektiv, kultiviert und freundlich, nicht unbedingt all die Charakterzüge, die am häufigsten ihren tierischen Counterparts zugeschrieben werden.
In der Tat, Schlangen haben einen ziemlich schlechten Ruf. Neben Spinnen und Höhen, ist die Angst vor Schlangen, bekannt als Ophidiophobia, eine der häufigsten Phobien bei Menschen, etwa ein Drittel der Erwachsenen soll davon betroffen sein.
Alles was rutscht, sich windet, gleitet, mag bei vielen von uns Ängste auslösen, doch nur selten schaden Schlangen den Menschen wirklich, es sei denn die Schlange fühlt sich bedroht oder ist verletzt. Zu Ehren des Schlangenjahrs gibt es später in den K-files einige Schlangen-Fakten.

All things slippery, sliding, sinuous and slithering may incite shivers and screams in many of us, but snakes rarely harm humans unless the snake is threatened or injured — and they have some truly fascinating traits as well. Here's a species that could really use a public relation's makeover. With that in mind and in honor of the Year of the Snake, here are eight awesome facts about the slithering serpent.

Welcome Snakes...
In Rodrigues gibt es übrigens keine Schlangen, bis auf diese oben im Bild, die sich am liebsten beharrlich auf Kindergartentischen schlängeln. Die Kinder des Gonzague Special Learning Centre bekamen sie von einer sehr netten holländischen Dame, die mit ihrem Mann in Spanien lebt und dort mit allen Arten von Reptilien arbeitet.-
By the way, usual we don't have snakes in Rodrigues, but these have been slithering already since January in Rodrigues, the kids of the Gonzague Special Learning Centre got them from a nice Dutch lady who lives with her husband in Spain, both working with all kind of reptiles....

Und nun bleibt mir nur noch wie immer ein erfolgreiches, gesundes un tolles Neues Jahr zu wünschen, diesmal gehen meine Wünsche auch nach China, Kanada und in die Nähe von San Francisco, woher die Teilnehmer einer interessanten chinesischen Delegation stammen, die für 10 Tage unsere Insel nach umweltfreundlichen Projekten und Aspekten abgeklopft haben, und die nun hoffentlich alle wohlbehalten bei ihren Familien zum Feiern angekommen sind.-
What's left now? Sure, as always I want to wish a happy, successful, healthy and interesting New Year to all friends in Rodrigues, and this time my wishes also go to China, Canada and to the vicinity of San Francisco, where the participants of an interesting Chinese delegation have come from who spent about 10 days on our island to explore environmental projects and issues.I hope they have all safely arrived, celebrating now with their families.
