Meine All-Terre-Native zu den Drei Männern im All....My answer to Mr. Bezos, Mr. Brandon & Mr. Musk - Luc Perrot !!!

Screenshot "Stars in the eyes", cartoon New York Times

The day before yesterday Bezos, nine days before Branson and then when, please, Elon Musk? A new generation of billionaires is drawn into space. This costs a lot and requires endless CO2, and that for how many minutes up there, please ...?

To be honest, I don't really care if Branson is using a space plane that can return to the launch site like a glider pilot in the final phase of the return to the Earth's surface, and whether or not Bezos flies into space in a space capsule at the tip of a reusable rocket or that this capsule detaches itself from the rocket and lands on parachutes, and that both flights are suborbital, so by far not fast enough to permanently enter Earth orbit.

Who cares: "Branson flew at an altitude of over 80 kilometers and thus above the altitude mark that defines the limit to space for the US military. Bezos wants to cross the 100-kilometer limit, which is defined for physical reasons as the boundary between aerospace This is also the altitude, which is regarded internationally as a limit mark. " Since Bezos has developed an expandable rocket and not, like Branson, an aircraft with a comparatively modest rocket propulsion system, he could go a little further into space in the future. In the next step, he wants to fly into orbit with a further developed type of rocket and enter the satellite business.

So, as you can see, the three companies - Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin and SpaceX - have completely different orientations. Elon Musk's Space X sees itself as the largest launcher in the world after China. Only China has more rocket launches. SpaceX also supplies the International Space Station ISS with astronauts, food, technology and everything that goes with it. The other two companies are currently busy getting to about 100 km altitude and doing great parabolic flights, so to speak. This is for people who want to spend a lot of money on it. SpaceX has announced that it will launch a Falcon 9 rocket and a Crew Dragon space capsule later this year and will orbit the earth with four people. Further plans are flights with tourists to the ISS, who will then spend several days there.

It is interesting that there are people who have no doubt that "neither Elon Musk, nor Richard Branson or Jeff Bezos do it just to make money. At least that was never what drives them. They each have a vision and try to implement them", which in turn is only possible if there is already a lot of money ... and if there is already a lot of money, then a lot of it can be wasted without it causing pain ...

Expanding the boundaries of humanity is obviously a prestigious and symbolic topic for these billionaires, I confess I prefer the billionaires who have invested time, money and energy in futuristic-looking toilets.

Anyway, I personally prefer to stay on Earth, my trips into space will be limited to David Bowie and Luc Perrot and his infinitely precise and beguiling photography, as usual, and if I want something a little more special, then I'll see what the ISS has to offer. I wouldn't want to miss the ISS with its images from space, but with the best of will I can't imagine how booked private space-tourism will go together with the research and day-to-day operations of the ISS astronauts. Because of the CO2 emissions it is also a completely wrong signal in these times ... did we not agree, there is no planet B ...?

In this sense, we hope you enjoy the photos of Luc Perrot, the photographic genius of Réunion.

One day, one photo, one story ...

Circumpolar images like this have several advantages. They highlight the rotation of the Earth but also they make it possible to see that all the stars do not have the same color according to their temperature. So a yellow star (like the sun) is around 6000K while a blue star is much hotter and, conversely, a red star is cold.

You have the right to dream! Dreaming about changing your habits!
The break imposed on you may not be futile. It is a saving breath that questions us on the essential. There is meaning to all of this. You have to dig even if it means causing a cloud of dust. Then once the dust has settled on the ground, sorting will take place naturally!
Astro note: here is a nice portion of the Milky Way. The stars benefit from a diffuse light, caused by a photo filter, to gain in apparent brightness.
From bottom to top: the alpha and beta stars of the Centaur, the Sack of Coal (dark nebula), the Southern Cross and the Carina Nebula.

We have visitors. The unexpected comet SWAN C / 2020 F8 has appeared in the skies of the Southern Hemisphere. Barely visible to the naked eye, it is nonetheless a beautiful celestial object and features a pretty ionized tail. This morning around 4:30 am I managed to immortalize it from the Maïdo. It is here visible just above Gros Morne, barely disturbed by the glow of the Zodiacal light. In the foreground, the lights of La Nouvelle.-

Its observation is now very difficult because of the presence of the Moon. From now on, it is in the northern hemisphere that we should be able to admire it in the days to come ... provided that the decrease in its luminosity observed in recent hours is not the signal of its disintegration.-

When I went up to Maïdo on Sunday morning very early, there was this comet SWAN to photograph but we were also not very far from the peak of activity of Eta Aquarides, a shower of quite remarkable shooting stars. I put one of my cameras on a tripod to shoot a timelapse with some hopes of capturing a few. This one, I saw it with my own eyes! Beautiful and spectacular! So as usual, I made a wish. That of having this shooting star in the frame! Imagine that it has come true. Ok, it was borderline but it is there on the edge of the image in the company of our beautiful comet. A nice combo as I like them!

And yes, where does space actually begin?

It is controversial among experts whether Branson and Bezos were actually in space: The International Aviation Association (FAI) and many other experts see the boundary to space at 100 kilometers above the Earth, but there are no binding international regulations. For example, US Air Force soldiers were also given the designation astronauts, even though they had only flown to an altitude of 50 miles (80.5 kilometers). For comparison: the international space station ISS is located about 400 kilometers above the Earth's surface.

Covid-19: Ausgangssperre auch für Fotografen...Reunion under Lockdown...Luc Perrot en confinement...Soyons solidaire!

17.03.2020

With this lockdown starting, it will be difficult for me to take new photos. I invite you all, even here in Reunion, to respect the instructions. It is difficult but it is really for the good of all. Let us show solidarity!

In this photo taken last Thursday, the city of Saint-Denis lights up slowly with the arrival of night. At an altitude of 1124m, the view over the capital of Réunion is remarkable. In the foreground, the Ravine des Patates in Durand. -

Yesterday night at 9pm local time Mauritius and La Réunion and to cut things short, it was neither E.T. with his friends nor an UFO...
(please check the links at the bottom)

Conjunction Over Reunion Island
Astronomy Picture of the Day

 Luc Perrot

You don't have to be on Reunion Island to see this week's planetary conjunction. Only if you want to see this picturesque seascape as well. To see the conjunction from just about anywhere in the world, look to the west after sunset. The first planet you may notice is Venus, the brightest object in the western sky. Above Venus, the second brightest object is Jupiter. The hardest planet to spot is Mercury, which is visible only briefly after sunset as a faint dot just above the horizon.Picturesque rocks leading out from Reunion Island to the Indian Ocean populate the foreground of the above picture. Taken last week, the distant planets Venus and Jupiter were joined by a bright crescent Moon, which has now moved away.(source)

Und nun zu dem Sonnensturm,
der diese Woche in den Schlagzeilen war -
And now to the solar storm which has been in the news this week

The strongest space weather storm in five years struck Earth on March 8, 2012 causing some airlines to reroute their flights, threatening power disruptions and sparking a show of the northern lights. NASA and other agencies warned that the storm had the potential to disrupt global positioning systems, satellites and power grids, and had already caused some air carriers to change their planes' polar flight paths. However, the Earth's magnetic field appeared to be absorbing the brunt of the shock and it was unlikely to reach the most severe levels, US experts said."
