Montag war es dann soweit, ab 8 Uhr morgens wurden in 6 Zentren der Insel die Stimmen ausgezählt. Das Radio und auch das Fernsehen berichteten live.Viele Geschäfte hatten erst gar nicht aufgemacht, Port Mathurin war still wie selten. -

Monday was the day the suspense was to end, at 8am votes were counted in 6 centers on the island. The local radio station and MBC (TV) were broadcasting directly. Lots of shops didn't open at all, Port Mathurin was quiet as experienced rarely.-

Lundi était le jour à terminer le suspense, à partir de 8 heures les votes ont été comptés dans 6 centres sur l'île. La radio locale et MBC (TV) ont diffusé en directe. Beaucoup de magasins n'ont pas ouvert du tout, Port Mathurin était calme comme rarement vécue.

Und, um es kurz zu machen: die Tendenz der ersten Zählungen, die neben 3 traditionellen Hochburgen der OPR, eine Führung der 'weißen' Partei auch in Port Mathurin, Region 5, andeutete, kündigte einen wesentlich weniger engen Sieg der Partei von Serge Clair an als wie von vielen zuvor erwartet.-

And to make things short: the tendency of the first counts indicating a lead for the OPR in Region 5, Port Mathurin beside their 3 traditional strongholds, were announcing a less closer victory for the party of Serge Clair than expected by many.-

Et pour venir vite au point: la tendance des premiers comptages indiquant une avance pour l'OPR dans la région 5, Port Mathurin à côté de 3 autres bastions traditionnellement 'blanc', a annoncé une victoire moins proche pour le parti de Serge Clair que prévu avant par beaucoup.

Großer Gewinner der Wahlen wurde die OPR mit 8 Direktsitzen in 4 Regionen, während die MR als zweitstärkste Kraft  nur 4 Direktsitze in 2 Regionen gewinnen konnte.-

The Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais ( OPR ) party has been pronounced the winner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly Elections.OPR obtained 8 direct seats in 4 regions (Port Mathurin, Grande Montagne, Baie Aux Huître and Petit Gabriel), whereas MR as second strongest force could obtain only 4 seats in 2 regions, La Ferme and Maréchal.-

Le grand gagnant de ses élections était l'OPR. Les candidats de l’Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais (OPR) ont été classés en tête dans quatre régions, notamment à Petit-Gabriel, à Baie-aux-Huitres, à Port-Mathurin et à Grande-Montagne. Les candidats du Mouvement Rodriguais (MR) se contentent de la première place dans les régions de La Ferme et de Maréchal.

12 Direktmandate gab es zu besetzen, 8 gingen an die OPR , 4 an die MR. Doch der komfortable Vorsprung schrumpfte nach der Bekanntgabe der Berechnung für die Proportionalsitze drastisch, nach einer etwas komplizierten, Minderheiten berücksichtigenden Berechnungsformel, die der FPR, die ein Ergebnis von 10, 6 % erzielte die ersten beiden Sitze zuerkannte, sowie weitere 4 für die MR. Da dies zu einem Gleichstand geführt hätte, wurden der OPR noch einmal 3 Plätze zuerkannt.Insgesamt wird die Regional Assembly nun aus 21 Mitgliedern statt wie sonst 18 bestehen.:OPR/11, MR/8, FPR 2.-

The comfortable lead concerning the 8 direct seats for OPR in comparison to 4 for the MR shrank dramatically after the announcement of the calculation of the proportional seats. After a somewhat complicated, minorities considering calculation formula, 2 further seats were awarded to the FPR, which had achieved a score of 10, 6%, and another 4 seats for the MR. Since this would have resulted in a tie, the OPR was awarded another 3 places. - 

"Au scrutin majoritaire, ce dernier a remporté huit des 12 sièges à pouvoir, les quatre autres revenant au MR de Nicolas Von Mally. Cet écart s'est toutefois réduit de façon drastique sous la proportionnelle. L'OPR et le MR se sont retrouvés à égalité avec huit sièges chacun. Le Front patriotique de Rodrigues (FPR) s'est également illustré par l'entre-mise de Johnson Roussety et Alan Ladd Emilien avec un score régional de 10,6 %.

Face à ce scénario (OPR : 8-MR : 8-FPR : 2), la commission électorale, avec la bénédiction de l'Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC), a dû procéder à la nomination de trois membres additionnels de l'OPR sous la proportionnelle. Cela en vertu de l'article 10 (11) de la Rodrigues Regional Assembly Act qui se lit comme suit : “(10) Where following the return of the Island region members in accordance with subsections (1) to (9), a registered political party having obtained 7 or more of the 12 local region seats, finally finds itself with a total of less than 10 of the 18 seats, there shall be allocated to that party such number of additional seats as may be necessary to ensure that it disposes in the Regional Assembly of a majority of 50 percent plus one of the total number of seats".

L'ossature de l'Assemblée régionale est donc comme suit : 11 sièges à l'OPR, 8 sièges au MR et 2 sièges au FPR. Au total, l'ARR sera composée de 21 membres au lieu de 18. La situation est toutefois loin d'être confortable pour la formation de Serge Clair car selon cette configuration l'opposition détient 10 sièges au combiné, soit un seul de moins que l'exécutif."

Yes, a TV set in hospital, sounds were off...

Ich habe das Ende der Ergebnisse übrigens im Krankenhaus verfolgt, wo ich einen Termin hatte.Entgegen meiner Einschätzung, dass ich allein in der Wartehalle sitzen würde, teilte ich mir das Warten doch mit anderen, ungefähr 30 Personen, die ihren kostbaren Termin mit dem Orthopäden ebenfalls nicht riskieren wollten.  Nach den Bestellterminen  lichtete sich die Halle jedoch zusehends und es wurde auch hier wieder so ruhig wie in Port Mathurin.

By the way, I followed the end of the results in hospital, where I had an appointment.Contrary to my assessment that I would just be sitting alone in the waiting room, I shared waiting with about 30 others who did not want to risk their precious appointment with the orthopedic specialists. Apart from the appointments there were only few cases, the hall was rapidly cleared and becoming unusually quiet as soon as the orthopedist started receiving the patients.-

J'ai suivie les résultats finaux à l'hôpital, où j'avais un rendez-vous. Contrairement à mon évaluation que je serais probablement seule dans la salle d'attente, j'attendait quand-même avec une trentaine des autres, qui n'ont pas voulu non plus risquer leur rendez-vous précieux avec le spécialiste en orthopédie. Il n'y avait pas des foules comme toujours, le moment l'orthopédiste commencait à recevoir ses patients, la salle s'est vidée rapidement, en devenant si calme comme à Port Mathurin.

Freude bei den Anhängern der OPR, die gleich nach der Bekanntgabe der ersten Ergebnisse mit Autkorso Rallies um die Insel herum feierten, Enttäuschung bei den Anhängern der MR, für die das Ergebnis eine verständlich bittere Pille bedeutet.-

While celebrations took place immediately after the announcement of OPR as winning party in form of rallies around the island, for the supporters of the defeated MR the results have been a comprehensively bitter pill to swallow.-

Die offizielle Vereidigung der neuen Mitglieder der Regional Assembly ist vorgesehen für den jetzigen Samstag um 15 Uhr, zu diesem Anlass kommt morgen Präsident Jugnauth aus Mauritius.-
 

Mauritius President Jugnauth's visit is scheduled for Friday for the official inauguration of the new Rodrigues Regional Assembly which will take place on Saturday, 3pm.
