Mikado Kid....Childhood reloaded

Es ist Samstag, wir haben schon 2 Stunden Deutsch gelernt (Lebensmittel, einen Einkaufszettel schreiben und ein Dikat zum Thema Marktbesuch im Perfekt...). Mein Deutschschüler Ronn braucht eine Pause, ich auch. Wir haben die Wahl zwischen Memory und Mikado. Ronn wählt Mikado.-

It's Saturday, we have already learned German for 2 hours (groceries, writing a shopping list and a dictation on the subject of a visit to the market in Simple Present Perfect ...). My German student Ronn needs a break, me too. We have the choice between Memory and Mikado. Ronn chooses Mikado.-

C'est samedi, nous avons déjà travaillé l'allemand pendant 2 heures (épicerie, rédaction d'une liste de courses et d'une dictée au sujet d'une visite du marché en Passé Composé...). Mon étudiant allemand Ronn a besoin d'une pause, moi aussi. Nous avons le choix entre Memory et Mikado. Ronn choisit Mikado.

Erst letztes Jahr, kurz vor dem Lockdown, habe ich zufällig ein Mikadospiel in Mauritius gefunden. Jahrelang war ich nicht fündig geworden, irgendwann hatte ich aufgegeben. Es ist eines meiner Lieblingspiele aus meiner Kindheit, das ich immer gerne auch meinen DeutschschülerInnen nahe bringen wollte. -

Just last year, shortly before the lockdown, I accidentally found a Mikado game in Mauritius. For years I hadn't found anything, at some point I gave up. It is one of my favorite games from my childhood that I always wanted to introduce to my German students.-

L'année dernière, peu de temps avant le coouvre feu, j'ai accidentellement trouvé un jeu de Mikado à l'île Maurice. Pendant des années, je n'avais rien trouvé, à un moment donné j'ai abandonné ma recherche. C'est l'un de mes jeux préférés de mon enfance que j'ai toujours voulu présenter à mes étudiants allemands.

Keine Ahnung, wie oft wir es im letzten Jahr gespielt haben, manche Stäbchen sind nicht mehr so gerade wie sie zu Anfang waren...Einmal erwischte ich auch die Hunde, sie hatten das Spiel aus einer Tasche gezogen, die Stäbchen aus ihrer Plastikhülle befreit und sie in meinem Office verteilt...)) -

And Ronn loves the game. I have no idea how often we played it in the last year, some picksticks are no longer as straight as they were in the beginning ... I also caught the dogs once, they had pulled the game out of a bag and freed the sticks from their plastic cover and eventually distributed them in my office ...)) -

Et Ronn aime le jeu. Je n'ai aucune idée de la fréquence à laquelle nous y avons joué l'année dernière, certains bâtons ne sont plus aussi droits qu'au début ... J'ai aussi attrapé les chiens une fois, ils avaient sorti le jeu d'un sac et libéré les bâtons de leur couvercle en plastique et les avaient finalement distribués dans mon bureau...))

Um es vorwegzunehmen, ich werde an diesem Samstag gewinnen, zweimal. Aber ich bin sicher, es wird eine Revanche geben und da werde ich dann alt aussehen. Normalerweise gewinnt Ronn!-

To cut things short, I won twice this Saturday. But I'm sure there will be a rematch and then it will be me looking old, usually it's Ronn who wins!-

Pour faire court, je gagnais deux fois ce samedi. Mais je suis sûr qu'il y aura une revanche et ensuite ce sera moi qui ai l'air vieux, d'habitude c'est Ronn qui gagne !

Mikado set from the 17th century

Mikado ist ein Geschicklichkeitsspiel, das in Europa entstand und angeblich schon unter den Römern bekannt gewesen sein soll. Sein aus dem Japanischen stammender Name deutet allerdings an, dass es möglicherweise von ostasiatischen Orakeltechniken inspiriert wurde. Gespielt wird mit mehreren bunten Holzstäbchen, unter denen das wichtigste Mikado genannt wird.

Seinen Namen hat das Spiel von dem Stab mit dem höchsten Wert: Er ist blau gestreift und heißt Mikado, eigentlich eine veraltete Bezeichnung des japanischen Kaisers.In der Regel sind die Stäbchen nicht länger als 17 oder 20 cm.

Das übliche Mikadospiel besteht aus 41 Stäben (Mikadostäbchen, Mikadostäbe) von ca. 17 bis 20 cm Länge und 3 mm Dicke. Die Enden der Stäbchen sind zugespitzt. Die Stäbchen sollten absolut gerade und gleich dick sein. In der Regel werden die Mikadostäbchen aus Holz gefertigt. Die Stäbchen sind farbig codiert und entsprechen verschiedenen Werten, alle zusammen ergeben 170 Punkte.

Ziel ist es ohne zu wackeln, die meisten bzw. punktereichsten Stäbchen zu ergattern. Mehr zu den Regeln hier.-

Mikado is a pick-up sticks game originating in Europe, played with a set of same-length sticks which can measure between 17 centimetres and 20 centimetres.

In 1936, it was brought from Hungary (where it was called Marokko) to the United States and named pick-up sticks. This term is not very specific in respect to existing stick game variations. The "Mikado" name may have been avoided because it was a brand name of a game producer. The game is named for the highest scoring (blue) stick "Mikado" (Emperor of Japan).

Mikado est un jeu d'adress avec des bâtons de ramassage originaire d'Europe, joué avec un ensemble de bâtons de même longueur pouvant mesurer entre 17 centimètres et 20 centimètres et 2 à 6 joueurs.

En 1936, il a été importé de Hongrie (où il s'appelait Marokko) aux États-Unis et a été nommé pick-up sticks. Ce terme n'est pas très spécifique par rapport aux variantes de jeu de bâton existantes. Le nom "Mikado" a peut-être été évité car il s'agissait du nom de marque d'un producteur de jeux.

Es tut sich was....First group of blocked Rodriguans in quarantine - Nouvelles concernant des Rodriguais bloqués à Maurice

Eine erste Gruppe von 60 Rodriguern, bestehend aus medizinischem Personal, Beamten und Sportlern, wurde zur Quanrantäne in das Tropical Attitude Hotel in Trou d'Eau Douce gebracht. Seit der Ankündigung des Lockdowns am 5. März waren rund 400 Rodriguer auf Mauritius gestrandet.

Nach mehreren Versuchen, die Behörden auf ihre Situation in Mauritius aufmerksam zu machen, können sie endlich nach Rodrigues zurückkehren. Ihnen wurden jedoch Bedingungen auferlegt. Vor ihrer Abreise nach Rodrigues müssen sie sich einer obligatorischen Quarantäne von mindestens 14 Tagen auf Mauritius sowie PCR-Tests unterziehen. Negative Ergebnisse (Tag 0, Tag7, Tag14) ermöglichen es ihnen, nach Rodrigues zurückzukehren. Darüber hinaus müssen sie bei ihrer Ankunft auf der Insel sieben Tage lang an einem bestimmten Ort isoliert bleiben, wo sie nochmals getestet werden. Eine erste Gruppe wurde am Freitag bereits unter Quarantäne gestellt. Darüber hinaus hat Chief Commissioner Serge Clair bereits das Rückführungsprotokoll eingeleitet und Flüge gebucht. Jedem auf Mauritius blockierten Rodriguer bzw. Familie wurde ein einmaliger Zuschuss von 10.000 Rupien gewährt. -

A first group of 60 Rodriguans, comprising medical personnel, civil servants and sportsmen, was led in quanrantine. They are around 400 Rodriguans stranded in Mauritius since the announcement of confinement, on March 5. After several attempts to alert the authorities to their situation in Mauritius, they will finally be able to return to Rodrigues.

However, conditions were imposed on them. Before their departure for Rodrigues, a mandatory quarantine of at least 14 days in Mauritius will be imposed on them as well as PCR tests. Un premier groupe de 60 Rodriguais, comprenant du personnel médical, des fonctionnaires et des sportifs, a été conduit en quanrantaine.

Ils sont environ 400 Rodriguais bloqués à Maurice depuis l’annonce du confinement, soit le 5 mars. Après plusieurs tentatives d’alerter les autorités sur leur situation à Maurice, ces derniers pourront finalement rentrer à Rodrigues.

Cependant, des conditions leur ont été imposées. Avant leur départ pour Rodrigues, une quarantaine obligatoire d’au moins 14 jours à Maurice leur sera imposée ainsi que des tests PCRs. Des résultats négatifs (J 0, J7, J14) leur permettront de décoller pour Rodrigues. De plus, ils devront rester isolés dans un endroit désigné pendant sept jours à leur arrivée dans l’île. Un premier groupe a déjà été conduit en quarantaine.

D’ailleurs, le chef commissaire Serge Clair a déjà enclenché le protocole de rapatriement et des vols ont été réservés. Un One-Off Grant de Rs 10 000 a également été alloué à chaque Rodriguais bloqué à Maurice.

Lockdown 2 : Ronn in Rodrigues - der Papa in Mauritius....Blocked in Mauritius....Les Rodriguais bloqués à Maurice

Ronn malt wieder. Es ist Samstag, der 20. März, und Mauritius befindet sich am Tag 10 des 2. Lockdowns.

Das ist sein Bild zum jetzigen Lockdown. Sein Vater ist in Mauritius blockiert, es fliegen keine Flieger mehr, und wie viele andere Rodriguer, die sich aus Gründen medizinischer Behandlung, Arbeit, Urlaub und Einkaufen in Mauritius zum Zeitpunkt der ersten COVID-19 Fälle am 5. März aufgehalten haben, weiß gerade niemand so ganz genau, wie es weiter geht.

Repatriierungsflüge nach negativem Covid-19 Test und dann in Quarantänehotels wie letztes Jahr? Alle haben damit sehr schnell gerechnet, aber bislang tut sich nichts.Dies ist für die betroffenen Familienangehörigen nicht einfach.Ronn weiß nicht, wann er seinen Vater wiedersieht, sein Vater weiß nicht, wann er die Familie wiedersieht. -

Son père est bloqué à Maurice, il n'y a plus d'avions, et combien d'autres Rodriguer qui étaient à Maurice pour des soins médicaux, du travail, des vacances ou des achats au moment des premiers cas de COVID-19 le 5 mars, on reste dans le flou concernant un rétour éventuel.

Des vols de rapatriement après un test Covid-19 négatif puis dans des hôtels de quarantaine comme l'année dernière? Tout le monde s'y attendait très vite, mais rien ne s'est passé jusqu'à présent.Ce n'est pas facile pour les membres des familles concernées.Ronn ne sait pas quand il reverra son père, son père ne sait pas quand il reverra la famille.

Die mauritische Fernsehstation hat wieder alle Kinder aufgerufen, ihre Bilder oder auch kleinen Clips einzusenden, in denen sich ihre Gedanken and Ansichten zum Lockdown und das Virus zeigen. Eine tolle Initiative, und jeden Abend nach den Hauptnachrichten warten wir dann auch gespannt, was sich die Kinder haben einfallen lassen.Dieses Bild mit Ronn kam letzten Samstag in dem Zusammenschnitt vor.Leider noch nicht sein Bild zu der Situation der Rodriguer, so warten wir dann weiterhin gespannt jeden Abend, ob es doch noch kommt, so wie die Rodriguer mit Spannung auf Entscheidungen warten.-

La MBC, la chaîne de télévision mauricienne, a appelé encore une fois tous les enfants à envoyer leurs dessins ou leurs petits clips montrant leurs pensées et leurs points de vue sur le confinement et le virus. Une belle initiative, et chaque soir après les infos principales, nous attendons avec impatience de voir ce que les enfants ont à dire. Cette photo avec Ronn est apparue dans la compilation samedi dernier. Malheureusement, son dessin de la situation de Rodriguais n'est pas encore était inclu, alors nous contunuons à attendre chaque soir, si cela viendra après tout, si excité tout comme les Rodriguais qui attendent avec impatience les décisions.

Der erste Rückholflug gestrandeter Rodriguer fand am 3. Juni statt. 14 Tage Quarantäne in Quarantänehotels folgten. -

Das ist Kierah, Ronns kleine Schwester. Samstag ist nicht nur Premiere für ihre Eltern, nein, auch für sie. Denn sie wird gleich zum ersten Mal meinen absoluten Lieblingsnachtisch im Kafé Rose probieren.-

Paul turns 81...Und viele gute Wünsche!

This birthday will be a bit different from the others, as we are living in different times now. When we look back to last year's birthday, no one expected something like Corona to happen. Although we have been lucky in Rodrigues without any registered cases, we have been suffering quite a lot by the economic and practical consequences of the international border closure which is still on... So no travelling for Paul this year, the suitcases will stay empty in the store.Hopefully next year will be different, but who are we to know...? Friends of Paul from England wanted to come but couldn't...No International Honey Show to go this year neither. And as to Care-Co we are just struggling hard to survive this crisis with nearly no customers buying our products. So, this birthday will also have a more modest note in terms of cakes and photo prints which have been a tradition for quite some years now.

However well wishing is on, see yourself...!
